Win 7 Permissions

I've noticed on some folders on some of my hard drives that when I go to access them in Win 7, I am told I don't have permission to access them as I don't own the folder, even though I am an administrator.

These folders are just standard data folders set up on my old system (Win XP) storing video files, pictures etc.

I found a way around it by download the "Take ownership" registry patch. So I can just right click and take ownership of the folder, and then get access.

But it's a bit frustrating having to do this on many folders.

Is there a better solution?

You could turn off UAC as long as you're not in the habit of doing daft things on your computer or going on dodgy websites.

Not only is that a bad idea, but it won't solve the problem either.

I'm sure there is a way of putting permissions on the root of the drive and then cascade them down the file system, but I can't check as I'm on the Mac :(
