What's up with Google?

Now it takes like a few seconds for all of the images and web buttons etc to load and they fade in gradually so I'm guessing this is on purpose? Just me or is everyone finding this? :confused:

They did this a few weeks ago for a few days, now it's back.

What a waste of time.

There is one text box and a big button that says Search. How could anyone possibly be distracted by a some very discrete links at the top of the page?

I fear Google are turning a bit perculiar.
