Just bought an ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO AM3 Motherboard paired up with an AMD Phenom II 550 3.1 CPU

Anyone know if there is a 'Core Calibration' feature on this Mobo BIOS - would like to unlock all four cores if possible.

I got the combination on monday and it unlocked without issues.
It does depend on the motherboard revision and accompanied BIOS as much as the chip as AMD are now trying to force mobo manufacturers to remove the feature.
 
Good to hear! I guess time will tell. Is it relatively straight forward and indeed advisable with stock air cooling provided in the retail kit?

I worked my way through a few BIOS revisions and noticed new options appearing. What BIOS revision are you running anyway?

This is the latest:

M4A785TD-M EVO BIOS 0910
Improve ACC unleashing mode function.

The ACC/Unleashing options should be right there in the CPU BIOS section, just below Cool & Quite etc . . . . The ACC BIOS option was there from the first revision but handled a failed unlock really badly, I had to physically reset the BIOS with the CLR CMOS jumper which I haven't had to do for years and years! :p . . . . to make matters worse I had to do this dozens of times as I worked through all the various unlocking combinations (lots of numbers!), cut a long story short on the new BIOS if an unlock fails you get a friendly message and you can carry on as normal, much easier so I would recommend the latest ASUS bios to anyone trying their luck at the unlock! :cool:
 
Sounds hairy. Will have a go once delivered. Apart from this jumpers issue (hopefully remedied in 0910) is there any risk associated with trying to run all four cores? Presumably it draws more power at the very least, but can unlocking precipitate damage if the cpu isn't up to it?

If I had updated straight away to the latest BIOS I would have had an easier ride! :o . . . . I was pleased to notice the improvements appear as I updated through the different BIOS's, I was confused at first because there was no way to adjust the CPU-NB multiplier which was stuck at default [10x] so straight away when I started cranking the the system speed I was overclocking the **** out the CPU-NB heh, got it stable at 1.225v though which later proved handy . . . .once the BIOS was updated lo and behold a perfect working CPU-NB multiplier adjust appears! :D

Not that I'm aware of, doesn't seem to have caused any problems on the Athlon II X3 I am using, didn't manage to unlock that yet . . .

yep, unlocked two 550's on this baby, 1 needed more voltage however the board deals with unlocking perfectly and very easy.

If you have 1 really bad core there is also the option to set certain core combinations active, taking out the defunct core.

good stuff for a cheap matx board.
 
Another success here ... Unlocked 550BE to quad core and 3.3ghz without any extra voltage.

I'm really pleased with the board in particular - great spec and plenty of bios options.
 
Guy's I'm hoping you can help a complete noob out here because I am completely lost.

I have tried to unlock the dormant core's on my 550 BE but unfortunately my system does not post after I save the changes :(

Anyways i want to get a bit more juice out of this processor and possibly take my processor up to say x17 multiplier (3.4 ghz ) until my artic freezer comes. I have used amd overdrive but this only seems to keep the settings i want when the pc is on and when ever i reboot the machine it clears them and goes back to default.

I have checked my bios but ( which is the latest Version ) but i cannot find my multiplier to change it to x17. The Multiplier i do see seems to go up in stages of x4 to x11 can anyone help??

hi guys,
I have the m4a785td V evo which I believe uses the same bios and i'm not having any luck unlocking more cores.

I've tried increasing the vcore in stages up to 1.4500 but this has not helped.

some one suggested increasing the CPU-NB voltage, but I cant find it in the bios? does any one know what heading it comes under?

Thanks famas i found what i was looking for...................forgot it is possible to underclock a proc aswell as over clock and it had all the profiles from x4 upwards....I will hang my head in shame!

With regards to unlocking core's famas i think it really is pot luck if your extra core's are stable
