I'm currently using a x1900 256Mb on a 3(ish) year old rig.

I'm actually pretty happy with the system, but after installing GTA IV last night, I'm no longer happy with the card.

What's a good mid-weight step up nowadays (Around £150-£200)? Anything I should avoid especially? Any gems out there?

Thanks in advance!

Personally I would go for a 5770 1gb at the moment.

Handles current games quite well with low power consumption and keeps your future options open as it has dx11 support.

What's the rest of your spec?

Be aware that GTA IV eats system resources for breakfast. So if, say, your CPU is holding you back, then you won't get much more out of buying a new graphics card.

Thanks.

Obviously any modern graphics card is going to be a huge improvement on what you have now but GTA4 is probably the worst current game for CPU usage. My E8500 4GHz just gets away with it but ideally you need a quad-core. If you overclock that CPU to 3GHz+ and get a 5770/GTX260/4890 then you will be able to play most of the lastest games really well, GTA4 probably being the worst one.

From the numbers I've seen, the dual core 6600 won't take you very far with GTA IV

Although you will benefit in general gaming from a graphics card upgrade, I wouldnt expect the world from your processor at that clock frequency.

I would probably get a new graphics card and overclock the E6600. GTA IV will love you for the extra clock cycles :) (EDIT: pretty much as suggested above)
