Yup, good to see DDR3 slowly taking over. Shame it's gone up so much though since early last year.

A welcome return to geil a very strong brand for us in the past and I am sure they will be again with these prices.

Still never quite worked out why Geil don't put heatsinks on some of their modules? RAM modules these days get extremely hot even WITH a heatsink on.

Do they? DDR2 only really needed cooling at 1066mhz+, 2.2v and DDR3 requires even less power so it should run cooler.

The heatspreaders that you see on most premium modules are merely there for branding purposes. They don't actually contribute to the cooling.

I suppose there is no effective way to test whether they really work or not. I just know that my current DDR2 can get very hot if you touch the heatspreader on it (2.2v). Maybe DDR3 isn't so bad as it operates at much lower voltages.

Yeah. I had 2GB of Crucial 10th Anniversary stuff a few years back that I had overclocked to 1100mhz from 667mhz. That ran at 2.2v and needed active cooling or it would overheat and crash the PC. But DDR3 needs less voltage and is more efficient so I can't see any need for cooling except with heavy overclocks.

I have some ddr2 memory from geil and its superb. This looks like a good price for ddr3 stuff.

i will be buying 6gb of this soon
