Someone won my item on ebay. Its a Canon Powershot A560 camera. In the auction I stated it was broken and shows a lens error, there was also 3 pictures of the camera.

Somone won it for £18 + £3 delivery. They have no feedback, a new user and address is something like flat 1, 200 analby road, hull! I thought someone is pulling my plonker but sent and invoice anyway.

Within a few minutes I had an email saying he wanted the camera sending to India and the address was on the order invoice page. I replied saying fine but it would cost £7, so £25 total.

What do you think are the chances of him sending money?
Why would an Indian (in India) want to buy a knackered camera?
Can Paypal reverse funds, even if I move to my bank account?

Why does he want it sent to India?

You should send it to the address verified on the Paypal email receipt of payment.

Paypal will usually reverse funds if the buyer claims the item not received and the only way to confirm that is by postal tracking so send it to the UK address and use a signed for method of postage and update the paypal transaction details with the postage tracking info so if the buyer makes a claim paypal can see that it was deliveerd and signed for and that you kept up your end of the transaction.

This is one of the major problems with ebay, especially when it comes to cameras/laptops and mobile phones :(
If he pays it could be from a stolen paypal account, or cc or something and you might loose both camera + money. Alternatively, maybe he just fixes cameras :D

The postal system in India can be pretty bad and if it's fairly obvious that it is a camera being sent (and is not via an international courier), chances of it being ripped off in the system and not actually reaching him are also quite high.

Having stood out side an electrical shop in New Deli and watched them fix things you'd never imagine (hand re winding the coils on a 80's hand blender and re soldering bits to TVs new and old..) i'd guess someone has worked out a way to make money buying dead items and getting them fixed and re sold.

Oh, send it to the UK address or cancel the sale :)

Why even bother risking it? It's not like you risk losing a fortune in potential income by not going through with it.

As everyone has said, only send to the registered address and send it recorded. If you do not, you could easily lose your money and camera.

He's either using a fake address, or has family or friends living there. If the latter, they can easily send the camera on to him anyway. I wouldn't risk it myself.

Is true that. Though in chandigarh :p (city about 4 hrs drive away). Had a broken and oooooold sony music system. Took it to the sony service centre and they said it's too old and throw it away basically. Took it to a guy sitting on the side of a road. He said come back in 2 hrs and I did. Cost me about 6 quid and everything was completely fixed and working perfectly. Was that expensive cause he had to replace the lens on the cd drive ;p

Hes just emailed me again and asked for registered. Im sending it international signed for, for £11

How do i get back to view the hull address? when i click order details it has changed because I did the invoice of £18 + £11.14 to india

Thanks

This happened to me once, I was selling an old xbox ages ago and some guy won it and then asked it to be sent to India offering an extra £20 delivery costs... I then got a paypal email saying the funds had been put in but on closer inspection some words were spelt wrong so I checked paypal and ... no funds had been put in.

I almost fell for it too, had it packed up, addressed and ready to go lol.

Don't do it, mate.

What words were spelt wrong?
How did you 'check paypal'?

End of the day its a knackered camera, i was going to just bin it. It someone wants to try and give me £18 plus postage for it then good. I did put write and show pictures that its clearly broken

Why. he will simply reverse the paypal and you will end up with nothing. it's a scam and a blatant one.

And you'll be a camera and postage down.
