Got a friend with a problem machine, they shut it down one night and it refused to boot the next morning. No beeps, no display on the monitor, fans on though. He'd switched power supplies and it performed exactly the same.

I removed everything except RAM, still no change - came to the conclusion it was either the motherboard or the processor, but more likely to be the motherboard... He decided to take the risk that it was the motherboard too, ordered one and replaced it, still no beeps, nothing!

So, anybody else got any ideas before we get a new processor to try? He's happy to try them like this as it's cheaper than taking it to a shop to sort and I'm happy to help him for nowt.

silly question, but have you ruled out the socket and power cable?

Sorry just reread, the fans are working!
Can you swap the RAM or use just 1 stick?

There was only one stick, I couldn't find any spare DDR2 RAM to test it with. I'll try and find some more RAM before he orders the CPU. Tried it without the RAM, still no beeps. Should I be expecting beeps from a £35 ASRock motherboard?

I'll try a different speaker. I think the replaced motherboard had a built-in speaker too though. Hmm, now to find another speaker...
