On the road....
This is my XP loading screen as of last night.....

The PC's been running fine but I have noticed Battlefield 2 locking up recently and fear my card has now died.

Device manager as per the picture reports that "This device cannot start (Code 10)"

I RMA'd it last summer but can't find any paperwork bar my original Oc/UK receipt dated August 08.

So I guess I'm stuck with a knackered card. (Assuming Point of View cards only have 12Months warranty - anybody? )

Thus, spec me a cheap replacement please that'll at least match the old dead one which was a Point of View 8800 GTS 320MB - As long as it'll run Battlefield 2 at High Settings, 1280x1024 I'll be happy! :)

In the mean time, I'll be reclaiming my old 6800Ultra from my daughters machine!

Thanks. :)

Have you tried to take the fan off the gpu, use some new thermal paste and re-apply the fan unit? Or even try buying a new unit for the gpu, and see if that give you a temp fix for the mean time :)

You can pick up an Ati 4870 for around a ton, that will keep you going if you just replace the card ;)

I've cleaned out the fan which had a bit of fluff in it,I could try the new paste thing though, I have plenty of CPU paste which I assume would suit?

As for spending a ton, sod that! :D - The card cost me about £40 as a "shop special" from Oc/UK back in 2008!

I'll either stick with my 6800Ultra which tbh runs Battlefield 2 just fine (and I don't really play much else) tbh theres little point in me spending too much on the system, my CPU is only an e2180 so anything decent would be bottlenecked from the start.

Time to consider a total system upgrade I think...

Thanks for the suggestion re the card & paste, I have a feeling I'm just going to wreck it completely though! :D nothing to lose eh? :)

For that budget, either a 8800gt or maybe a 4850, both can be had for around that price on the bay or on MM.

I picked up a 9800GT for under £30 last week, B-Grade stock is where it's at

The system upgrade can wait until my Car's passed (fingers crossed!) its MOT.

Silworths 9800GT is more like it! :D

bake it in the oven! surprised no one else has suggested it yet :D

I may well try this...... why do I just know I'm going to end up with fire, explosions and possibly death in my kitchen tonight??? :D

Thanks for the confirmation of death guys, now to cremate it!

Why do i get the feeling your not going to use the oven in the kitchen at all, but some 50gal drum cut in half with a grill, some petrol and matches lol :D

let us know how you get on fella, as others have said, some have had success others havent. nothing to lose lol, well ok if you go ott you may lose the kitchen or even the house, but then the knackered graphics card will be the least of your worries lol :p
