Enhanced 5970 out soon?

Looks more like Asus wanting to make a new "Mars" card, they apparently want the most powerful card every generation at any cost........ considing the dual 285GTX's price, I dread to think how much this will cost.

That cooler would be awesome though, even in all alu and cheap as chips. All these coolers need is to ditch the stupid shroud and get a real fan like that one on it and you get immensely better cooling.

You take the fan/shroud off a 4870x2 and stick a £5 zalman 120mm over the heatsinks, which is by no means optimal, and I never went above 55C overclocked, while the stock sink would easily go well over 70C under load.

I was really hoping after the later 48XX cards came with similar "real" fans and not blowers on them, which all offered increased cooling and most less noise(they still weren't very well designed), that the whole 5XXX series would come with real fans and not stupid stupid stupid blowers, which are simply terrible fans.

I don't think any of Nvidia's new cards will even be as good as the 5970 from what I have read,

The 5970 is by far the best and bggest card out there and it won't be beaten for a long long time so I think if they ATI release this enhanced version it's just going to be overkill.

I mean which games Even really take full advantage of these cards there is nothing this extreme, Even a 5870 is more than enough.

So I ask what is the real point?

Also this card if released will cost a BOMB!!!

Wow. That looks fantastic!

To add to drunkenmaster's point, on my old BFG 8600GT I took off the old heatsink fan (if you could call it a fan...) and literally wire-tied on an 80mm fan I had spare and then wired it into the graphics cards original fan power. The sound and heat both went down. That kludge of a mod lasted me until I gave it away for free. Funny thing is I put the old fan back when I gave it away and it died a few months after from over heating.

wtf
whats the point.. a standard hd 5970 is enough :p
looks good though

but id wait and see if the coolit omni gpu coolers will become available

Damn that's cool looking. Reminds me of when I saw the 5770 vapor-x and decided I must have it :D This ones way out of my price range though :/
Still I think Nvidia have just lost the fight with this thing coming out. This round anyway, I'm sure Nv will recover.

I used to like the look of the XFX passive 7950 GT. Not so sure any more, though. I do kind of like the 5970 there, though - just because it looks like if you hit somebody with it you'd probably hurt them, and it really wants to let you know. :p

I think your missing the point! Guess you wasn't one of the people who were concerned there was going to be slower innovation without competition from Nv.

At the end of the day, it looks like AMD is in competition with it's self here...
Which believe it or not may also be good for prices. Maybe later down the road the 5970 will be replaced by these low leakage designs for the top spot, and the 5970 will occupy the price point the 5950 would have occupied.

It has 4GB of Mem=2GB per GPU & if other partners don't have 4GB versions out by then i will be picking up 2 of these.

Yeap. From what I read and hear, a 5870 is more than enough for a single screen. It may struggle a lil with 3 24"'s but I'd say a 5970 could cover 3 24's no problem. dunno about full AA though
