1.5l turbo engines with KERS coming to F1 in 2013?

I honestly prefer virtually every other F1 era's engines to the current crop of 2.4 V8s. But the turbo ones hold a particularly special place in my heart as they were around when I was first watching Formula One. If you want to listen to some, this YT account has a bunch of turbo era races uploaded. Get in there before FOM get the account nuked....

Well, the Scuderia don't really like the idea apparently. Guess we'll see just how much power they really do have in the halls of the FIA if they can veto this one :)

Not sure if I like this or not, the previous turbo era was before my time and the modern turbo era if it happens will probably be totally different to that anyway. Surely the spec they would choose for it would be to give similar power as the current 2.4l v8s, but would probably sound worse so I don't really see the benefit. Unless of course they ramp up the power and still sound great then I'm all for it, but then there is the safety aspect, we all want to see F1 get faster and faster but we don't want to see someone die again and F1 cars are still miles above the other formula and the fastest they have ever been.

I do like the idea of bringing KERS back as long as its not as restrictive as its current spec is, and they give the teams enough time to implement it well.

muhh it'll itill be restricted and probably very limited scope for development, untill they change this standpoint, seems little point in changing.

Still reckon now we have no refuelling. Say you are aloud x-litres of fuel. Go do what ever the hell you like.

Whenever I think of the Turbo era, I always come back to this:

He's on the verge of throwing it off for 95% of the lap

They should really be allowed to go crazy with KERS - recover as much energy as you want and expel it when you want - within safety specs...

They have started talking about larger lumps of KERS boost limited to a number of times a race. I like that idea, it certainly worked for A1GP.

no no no. these heavy restrictions are stupid. lets teams do what they want with them. The more energy they recover the better for use outside the sport, which means more investment. Also the more energy they recover the more it will unbalance the car. Different strategies and different designs.
Same with engines limit the fuel.
Also put in the rules allowance for alternative "green" fuels. Although I doubt any would be race for a decade, but it would allow companies to invest and research.

Clamp down on aero and lift most restrictions on kers/engines and the likes.

Spot on!!!

Also does the use of KERS require additional fuel, I know it would be impossible to govern (and therefore every chance the FIA would mess it up entirely lol) - but lets just say a KERS unit was passed for racing and as a by product it used an additional 100ml of fuel for every 4 second burst or whatever, the ECU actually forces it to use 250ml of fuel to make the use of it much more difficult to judge....maybe make the racing a lot more interesting come the end of the race

why would you want it to use fuel?

The power it takes is derived from braking. which make the car harder to control and unbalances it. So the more you risk the more energy you recover.

This.

I'd also like to see clamp down on the the insane levels of rear downforce, let the rear chassis work harder and make the cars a little more 'rough' and 'ragged' to drive. Also help overtaking and encourage technical development.
