http://techreport.com/articles.x/18799/1 Interesting value proposition near the end & a better assortment of multi threaded tests included .

we need some decent benchmarks i read the bit tech one with the i7 930 fairly ahead and u can just not even bother clicking the link as its useless, no multicore games that can use the additional cores like metro 2033 etc or RES 5 benchmark, just .....crysis YAY crysis gtfo honestly and do some proper benchmarks, the only thing they did was cinebench which showed the 6 cores shining through mmmm think ill go back to bed relax and read some proper reviews later.

edit i read tomshardware now too and again useless are these guys retarded or something? dirt 2 l4d2 and wait for it crysis YAY crysis :| not one single properly multithreaded game could someone please direct me to at least 1 half decent benchmark?

also everyone read the overclock3D.net reviews they say the phenom spanks the i7 clock for clock by 23% in dirt2 and provides a smoother experience in crysis? crysis doesnt use 4 cores though does it? weird

Ah well, bit of a let down. Glad I went with a 965 BE now anyway.

Just looks like 6 cores really aren't needed yet as nothing is setup to use them properly :(

Looking forward to seeing the 4 core parts though, should clock over 4GHz with a bit of luck :D

Same m8, I want one just to play with one, but nothing I do needs one, and i've only just bought this 965...

Must resist :D

Wait for the 4 core version ;)

Or wait for the 32nm version... surely AMD have to actually update their process tech sometime? :S

Although from what I've heard, these new x6 beasts use less power per core already, so I guess process technology can mean more than just die shrinks :)

Metro2033 does,

games.on.net: Does your game takes advantage of multiple CPU cores?

Olez: Yes, it was a decision way, way before the engine was even in prototype. It was multithreaded from the start.

games.on.net: So if I go from a dual to quad core, what performance increase can I expect?

Olez: If you are not bottlenecked by the video card, we have linear scaling – so double the performance. This goes all the way up to eight and sixteen cores.

Although I imagine you need a beefy gpu or two to see any gains due to being gpu limited.

BFBC2 uses 6 cores as well.

The problem as they say is that you will always be GPU limited at normal gaming res, so the extra cores just don't give you any benefit over current quads, or in a lot of cases duals.

We need GPU tech to catchup! :(

I'm gonna buy bc2 on pc, but do I order the 1055T or 1090T?

I'm concerned that the 1055T is only 2.8Ghz... Where as my now sold 965 can get 3.8ghz on default volt.

Can AMD's even be overclocked by 1.0ghz?

Strange, in xbitlabs the Dirt 2 benchmark shows the 965 giving 115fps yet the 1090T only gives 63fps?

Why is that?

That's very strange, I'm guessing reviewer error since his conclusion doesn't really make sense either:

And in Colin McRae: DiRT2 both Phenom II X6 processors show suspiciously low fps rate, which must have something to do with the specific optimizations for this game. In other words, Intel quad-core processor seem to be the best choice for gaming these days, because their microarchitecture is best suited for the type of load created during contemporary gameplay.

...he says that with the Phenom 965 sitting above all the Intel CPUs in the same benchmark.

EDIT: I wonder if he had V-sync on?

The Phenom II x6 1055T is the tastier one with the better price point I believe. Thats a sweet processor to have I say.

But for gamers or people who haven't got £170 to spend on a processor, the phenom II x4 955 is still a decent buy with a better graphics card.
