Odd sound issue - Asus D2X

I haven't really had many problems with this until recently, possibly around the time I got my Asus 5850 graphics card.

Basically I fire up a game and my sound is messed up, feels like the L&R are reversed, I quit out and go to Sound in Control Panel, hit configure and to the speaker test, it seems like nearly all the sound is coming from the Right channel. I can fix it by unplugging and plugging back in the speaker jack or disable and enable speakers.

Any ideas? Compatibility issue with the graphics card?

If it is I will have to go back to Nvidia, never had this problem till I switched to ATi. :(

Already have, like this at the moment.

Anyone have any ideas on this? It's still driving me nuts.

Sometimes the L&R channel completely switch, sometimes its just very one sided.

I have been looking for an Nvidia card, might try my old GTX 280 just do see if its ok with the Nvidia card, if it isnt then the sound card must be faulty.

For some reason W7 does not match the Xonar's settings, you must manually do this in 'sound settings'. If you haven't already dome this it would be worth a try?

Also, are you using the latest drivers released last week I believe?

I was also having the exact same problem with my D2X, especially on BC2 where it drove me insane.

I spoke to ASUS and they just told me to uninstall the drivers, take out the card and restart to make sure all traces of the previous drivers were removed, and then to finally install the latest drivers with the card installed. Since reinstalling, I haven't noticed any problems.

Vector - Yea all latest drivers and all set up in sound control panel.

Helios - I'll give it a whirl but I have re-installed since the problem first started, will try again though.

Ok, I tried the above, the first time testing everything came from the Left channel, I disabled and re-enabled then it was totally reversed, one more time to fix it.

Helios are you running an ATi GFX card?

Yeah I use a 5870 personally. I will have to keep checking if the sound switches or not but so far I haven't noticed anything. It could well be because I've been testing some nvidia gcards lately.

Edit: I just tried disabling it and then enabling the sound with a 5850 installed and noticed that the left sound would first come from the right speaker then it would go back to being alright everytime I tested the speaker on the audio console. So for the most part, it's working fine but it switches channel once or twice.

Which drivers are you using btw?

Edit 2: Seems I haven't solved it at all :(. It's playing the wrong sound.

Sorry for the late reply.

I'm using all latest drivers, Xonar 7.12.8.1777, Cat 10.6 for my graphics.

Have you had this problem while using Nvidia cards?

I contacted Asus about it and they told me to RMA it, does it have 1 year warranty on these? If so mine is out of warranty and I'm convinced it's a conflict anyway.

Cheers VK, can you confirm the warranty length too? Is it 1 or 2 years?

The Windows 7 drivers seems pretty old, surprising there haven't been any updates.

Helios which Windows are you running?

I also totally disabled the ATi sound via HDMI, just in case it was causing problems.

The chaps in our Audio Unit have recommended the following course of action:

Downloading PLX fireware update Ver 1.1 could be helpful for this issue.

Please refer the posts in our forum here: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...d_id=21&model=Xonar+DX&page=1&SLanguage=en-us
and download latest PLX fireware Version here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=Xonar D2X&SLanguage=en-us

Just choose “Operating system” and then go to “Utilities” and download the latest PLX firmware update Ver 1.1

If you still get problems, I might need to take a few more details from you and get them to recreate your system in our HQ :)

Thanks for the reply VK.

When I click that link I select Windows 7 64bit, then go to utilities and the only thing there is RMAA V6.0.6 - RMAA (RightMark Audio Analyzer) V6.0.6

PLX 1.1 is under Vista 64 bit, will it still be ok to use?

edit - it seemed to work anyway, I will test and report back.
