Have been parking my car under a tree at work and it got covered in the horrible sticky stuff and then dried on rock hard, my normal not very good car cleaning attempt was useless against this stuff! Anything that will loosen it up so it can be easily cleaned off?

Is this the microscopic hard dusty stuff that makes the car feel like sandpaper? I just cleaned a couple of our cars and just a basic wash seemed to remove it.

I'd love to know where it comes from though. Is it airborne?

Valetpro Tar and Glue Remover works well.
It can be applied straight from the bottle on a soft cloth, but for best results I tend to decant it into a spray bottle, spray it onto the mark and let it dwell for 5 mins, whilst washing the car. The remnance can then be rinsed off with a hose.
