Couple weeks ago I got a Paysafecard as a gift from a friend. She told me I can use it to buy Skype credits with it, but later I found out that I can even make purchases on Amazon or bet, or get Facebook game credits... etc.
It's a prepaid card and all you need is to enter some digits and the purchase is complete. No names, no addresses - if you don't want to.

Maybe it's time for new payment methods? What I mean is that this way there would be less scams and account frauds and what not.
I've been thinking about this for some time and was wondering what your opinion is.

Paysafecard (German company I think) has been around for years on the continent, same as entropay, click2pay (which create a visa electron card that you can use for phone/internet payments) moneybookers and neteller. Iits all there but people dont realise.

I do agree with you Moses, those who fall for scams can always be tricked, but still I believe it's a lot safer than having an account full of your details and money to spend, right?

Yeah, I also think it's German product.
I never heard about those, but yet I didn't hear about the Paysafecard as well 'till couple weeks ago, so...
I did check this entropay and click2pay that you mentioned, but I see they require an account in order to use their services... so that's the difference I'm talking about. With this you don't need names or anything.
Even if you want to send someone money, you can just send them the card's photocopy on e-mail.

It's just not practical for widespread use though. You need to go somewhere to top it up. Inconvenient.

haha! I love google! LOOK what i have found...
You can actually BUY it online. Cool... I've never known about this option before... thanks for asking!

And just to correct myself "The paysafecard group, founded in 2000 in Austria and Germany (...)" I thought it was only GER.

So there… we learned two new things today :D

I think that's actually one of the good things ... ;D
As outta.service said you can top it up online via their page but you get to control how much you spend a month that way.
I am aware that that doesn't apply for everyone but I'm VERY prone to maxing out my accounts cause I simply don't follow my expenses ;D

Fools + money = easily parted regardless of payment method.

Having said that, scams are getting more sophisticated daily. There's no need for more measures. Banks now provide chip and pin devices for money transfers ect. The only weak links are the postal system and people themselves

I don't really see the point in these types of products.

Sure I read somewhere they're used for a disproportionate number of transactions on unsavoury sites as it can be easier to be anonymous or use false details...

...or just not using details at all?

I mean, if you have an Amazon, or Facebook, or Bitefight, or no matter which account, and you JUST want to SPEND some real money for some online stuff, then WHY logging into other accounts, or typing ALL your info, when you can just type in 16 digits and you're all done.

The fact that it's YOUR account, in which you're ordering something, proves YOUR existence.
Why should they care about my street no. if I only buy some imaginable boosts for games anyway?

It's true than many who were scammed didn't pay a lot attention to where they are giving away their info, but with this card it really is impossible to crack it. Even if you crack the 16 digit code, there's still a password that user may activate.

I don't understand why all that skepticism all of a sudden...

I don't really see the point in these types of products.

A lot of companies and banking institutions have somewhat negative and 19th century views towards gambling so the only way to get money into betfair or wherever is to use an online payment merchant. They are also safer as all the biggies are based in the UK and more sound than the average bank.

This must be a joke! Why would somebody buy a paysafecard online? :D :D :D
I can understand people being lazy to go out and get a prepaid card from the real shop but it's never been a problem for those who really want this product. They don't complain, they go and get what they want when the others keep on sitting at home and babble about the imperfections of this world. :)
As for me, I also have to fight my laziness but I've managed to cope with it till now.

Stupid soundbite. I somehow doubt that. Got any evidence to support your comment?

When I said this I didn't mean for you to start hoarding your money in MB merely that it has been around for a while and is a sound company to use for transferring money online. Here are their results for 08 anyway:

Results for the year ended 31 December 2008

* Total revenue for 2008 up 88% to €34.5m (2007: €18.4m)
* EBITDA up 108% to €18.7m (2007: €9.0m)
* Transaction volumes up 63% to €2,373m (2007: €1,451m); post period end reaches €10bn mark

Operational

This must be a joke! Why would somebody buy a paysafecard online?

So they can deposit more money into the online casino without leaving their seat

Exactly my reason for using them ...

Yes, it's sad. But I still believe that paysafecard was made for a better and safer way of online payment.
And it is!

After all, don't give away your code to just anyone and your headache is gone. On their site is specifically stated WHERE to buy it and HOW to spend it.

Here are their results for 08 anyway:
Oh boy.... I didn't know this :) You should have started this thread :D

And anyone heard about those code generators? YouTube is full of them
I mean come on...
