Just a quick mini review on the Amazon Kindle DX Graphite (KDXG) after a few hours ownership.
This is the latest version with the new Pearl e-ink display which claims better contrast.

My previous (and only other) ereader was a BeBook mini so I'll be comparing the KDXG to the BBM.
First impressions.
The KDXG is big. 10.4" x 7.2" / 264mm x 183mm On a sheet of A4 paper it leaves a border of ~1 to 1.5cm all round.
It's heavy - weighs in at just over 1lb or 0.5kg. It's over 3 times as heavy as the BBM.
The combination of weight and size means it's not ideal for holding whilst reading. It's better laid flat or at an angle, whch also makes the keyboard easier to use.
The display is definately better than my BBM. It's less grey and text is darker.
Most of my ebooks are in epub format so I had to convert them to mobi (using Calibre) to read on the KDXG. No problems there.
The main reason I changed to the KDXG from my BBM was to view pdfs.
L to R : PC screen grab (Adobe Reader), BeBook Mini, Kindle DXG
As you can see the BBM fails miserably at displaying the PDF.
The PDF is page 3 from the Canon 7D manual. It can be downloaded from - http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/profe...igital_slr_cameras/eos_7d#BrochuresAndManuals
- file eos7d-im2-en.pdf. Images of the BBM and KDXG were taken by scanning my ereaders.
In the picture, the KDXG display doesn't look much better than the BBM, but that could be attributed to them being scanned at different times. The BBM image is blurry because it's screen is set deeper into the casing than the KDXG and my scanner is unable to focus on it.
If anyone is thinking of getting a KDXG for viewing pdfs, provide a legal link to the pdf. I'll try it out and report back
