Astroboffins are warning that a mighty "eruption" of superhot plasma has been blasted out of the Sun directly at the Earth. The plasma cloud is expected to reach Earth beginning tomorrow, possibly causing strange phenomena - including a mighty geomagnetic storm which could see the Northern Lights aurorae extend as far south as Blighty or the northern USA.

so are we going to see the plot of knowing play out in the next 24 hours ? - i'm waiting for those alien people to come round my house.... damn that was a poor film, well ok film, but abysmal ending...

Looks like the Sun is getting ready for a period of increased solar activity the next few years will be very interesting...it does go through 11 year hormone cycles :D

I would expect places like Scotland to perhaps see this (also less light pollution) and probably not as far south as London.

would be interesting to see any correlation between increased solar activity and temp.... im still sceptical about the climate change sceptics.. but would certainly be interesting...

Occasionally if the conditions are just right then you can already see the Aurora Borealis in the North of Scotland but I'd be highly surprised if anywhere near me could possibly see the results of this activity - way too much light pollution, maybe we can persuade them to turn all the lights off in London? I'm up for that as it's beautiful when you see the Aurora Borealis.
