Hi Guys..

Wow.. I'm fuming at the moment.. got back from cousins all day.. went into my e-mails.. see two PayPal e-mails.. Spam I thought.. looked at them and they seemed legit.. two transactions to two accounts for $750 and $500.

Logged into my PayPal and it's actually happened! ****!

I called my bank.. cancelled the card linked to account and also made disputes.. have I done the right things? Any tips.. I also rang PayPal and they said they can't do anything at this point in time as I've already made the disputes.

I am gobsmacked.. I knew something like this will happen to me sooner or later. Never had a bad thing for PayPal.. Cancelling it all together after this is sorted (which I hope it will!).

Thanks,
Jake.

contact paypal (edit you did, let them process it and it should all be gravy)

similar happened to my mate and they sorted it out really well :) took a bit of time, but it got done!

it was a while, couple of weeks i think. They treat it as any other dispute (wasnt "urgent" or anything) which he got really worried about. Nothing you can do other than wait I don't think though, which I know is a horrible feeling!

dont take this as anything set in stone though, just relaying what happened to my mate :)
btw: the method they used with his was "gift" which normally don't get looked at by paypal (so it says on their support), but they fully refunded his acc even though it was sent as a gift payment.

Well, I got the card cancelled that is linked with the account, and there were no transactions holding on the account.. so when I get my new card, it should be fine.. Still scary business though..

If you pay your paypal with a credit card then contact your credit card company and explain the situation to them, they'll cancel the payments.

It's been resolved by PayPal and they are 'refunding' the money in the next 5 days. Nothing was taken in the first place.. but alteast I know it's been sorted.. now I got a cancelled card :/

This is exactly why I distrust Paypal and Ebay.

A couple of week before Xmas '08 I too got what I thought was a spam email from Paypal - receipt for the payment of a mobile phone on Ebay.
I binned the email and then got curious. I logged into my Paypal there sure enough a £500+ payment had gone out from my bank account.

I looked at the auction and it wasn't even my Ebay account. I raised it with Paypal and they said that the seller had to provide proof that they HADN'T shipped it to my address or the payment would stick.....ermmmm.... what??

I did a bit of digging using the hotmail address of the "seller" and turned up a phone number for them which was in the area that the phone was claiming to be sold from.
I rang and had a chat with them - they were indeed a geniune seller and they said that the buyer had already paid. I explained the situation and they checked their paypal, only to find 2 indentical payments - one from the buyer and the other from me.

With this I went back to Paypal with this info and told them their system had a fit and they claimed there system is never wrong. The seller also tried to return my payment and the buyer got both lots of the money!! Thankfully it was all above board and the buyer sent my part of the money back to me. They had to abandon the sale of the phone and do it again as all the money going back and forth confused the hell outta Ebay too.

A couple of days before Xmas I logged into Paypal to find they too had refunded the money as the seller "had just contacted them to explain" (despite it being 2 weeks prior)
I replied and told them to send the money back as we'd sorted it without them.

Frustrating as hell.

PayPal gave me 1p the other day,

The message said:

A penny for your thoughts, an e-gift card from PayPal

Stupidest most pointless thing ever. Except now I have posted about it making me market it for them.

Paypal deal with tens of thousands of transactions a day - yes, istakes are going to be made.
No they haven't been hacked.
If your account has been hacked then it's either keyloggers on your machine of your password was nice and easy to guess.

Update:

Well, I didn't cancel the direct debits on my account and one transaction went through for £481.99... ****.

Rang PayPal and they said it's been reversed, because of the dispute I made and should go back into my PayPal account as early as tomorrow, or as late as Tuesday next week. As soon as this happens (which I hope it does).. it's going straight into my Bank account again and PayPal is saying goodbye!
