ok i have a XFX 9800GT from OcUK and its stopping windows from booting once the nvidia drivers are install.
It will stall on the windows boot screen and just sit there.
Done a fresh driver install cleaning the old ones out with driver sweeper but with same results.
System boots into safe mode fine.
System boots normaly with no drivers installed.
Overclockers checked the card , no faults found.
Mainboard drivers up to date.

other stuff i should mention
6pin IS plugged in to card
PSU is brand new
Direct X checks out
Motherboard up to date
No onboard VGA to disable
only BIOS option for GFX card is first boot device

Try some of the older XP64 bit drivers. If they don't help then you may need to reinstall the OS, you may get away with just installing over the top.

It might worth a thread in the Motherboard section to see if anyone else is having trouble with the Gigabyte board.

Did the problem just start out of the blue ?

Yeah when i got the card and installed it .
Not had this problem with my previous 8800GT.

You sure its a motherboard problem ?

Some of those older boards have issues with PCI-e 1.1+ cards, especially ones that don't have their own clock gen and use the PCI-e bus for timing (not sure if these 9800s do that - its generally just the cheaper model 9600 cards).

So you old rig died ? You upgraded the Mobo, GPU and PSU and now the system wont boot.

I would put a fresh install of windows on another drive and see if you can get the system working. Have your all drivers on a USB and run unregistered. If you still have no joy after the clean install then I would think you have a dodgy card, PSU or some type of conflict.

My old PSU died a few weeks ago so took the chance to swap out the motherboard for a better one and then my old graphics card died so i got the 9800GT and thats when the problems started.
Boots fine without the 9800 drivers installed so it does work just not with the GFX drivers installed
