Well, as 'decent' as reasonably possible for £13/month!

This will be for my wife. I'm really trying to find an Android phone with a good screen but am failing a bit at this price point. I'm unsure of what manufacturers/models to avoid, so need a little guidance. She's currently on Virgin, but will change due to rubbish coverage in our area for whatever reason (I'm on Vodafone and have no trouble at all, but always did with Virgin on various phones).

I'll also consider Blackberry aswell, but again, I'm really not sure what I'm looking at here!

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Ok, cheers. Sounds promising so far from what I've read and definitely goes on the list.

What sort of usage?
Going handset only and then on threes PAYG offer works out pretty cheap if you want light usage + net access.

£250 for a Motorola Dext, topping up at least £10 every three months gives you free internet and a bundle of texts that lasts the full 90 days (plus the credit)
That works out at £13.75 if you think of it like a 24 month contract (250+(8*10))/24

And of course, as a PAYG its flexible and you're not actually stuck on a contract.

If you need more usage than that you'll have to get a worse phone. You could probably go for a £10pm sim only one month contract that gets you 100mins, unlimited texts and net, and get a HTC Hero for around £100.

I can find a T-Mobile pulse and a Blackberry Curve for £15/month on T-mobile.

+1 for the samsung galaxy I5700, it's an absolutely stunning mobile for the price, especially now that the developers over at samdroid.net have developed even better drivers for it.

Have a read through these similar threads for some details on the i5700 and a few other mobiles that you could get for around the same price as the i5700 if you look around various sites:

I have posted my thoughts on the i5700 and a few other mobiles around the same price as the i5700 in those threads.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

Managed to find the HTC Hero for a couple £/month more. Not sure which to go with now.

As for buying a handset outright - she doesn't want to do that.

*Facepalm*

Went for the HTC Hero through buymobilephones.net, and received an email yesterday stating that they were experiencing order processing delays due to high demand (maybe a backlog of orders over the weekend).

Due to being the cynical git that I am, I sent them an email asking whether or not they actually have stock of the HTC Hero (i.e. was their first email just covering up this fact), to which I received the reply that they are indeed out of stock, but will have the phone for despatch within a week, which I will believe when I see. The issue now will be that there won't be anybody in to receive the phone, so I'll have to drive 30 miles after work one day next week if they actually do deliver it when they say they will. However, I won't hold my breath.

After the Orange Accessories Sennheiser earphones performance that many have recently gone through on here (myself being one of them that didn't receive a pair after ordering), I am seriously losing faith in online retailers.
