Hello

I was wondering what is the best ISP available in the United Kingdom regarding the following things:

Speed
Customer Service (Not necessarily have to be english)
Price
Uptime
Good for gaming/ Low latency

Please give your opinions as it matters to me!

Overall I'd probably say O2/Be*. Haven't had any problems with them.

But for speed, latency and what not, probably Virgin Media.

All depends on where you live and what your usage requirements are.

VM are great in some places, and poor in others. O2/Be are fast and unlimited, but not available in a lot of places. AAISP have great customer service but are expensive if you need a lot of peak time allowance.

Definately BE. Even though I didn't get the full 24mb, it was 99.99% reliable, rock solid pings, excellent customer service, etc.. The only problem was my distance to the exchange which limited my speed and I totally accepted that.

I've been with Virgin 20mb for a few months now and it's terrible. I don't get anywhere near the advertised speed, even though it's cable/fibre and distance doesn't really matter. So what does this mean? It means the Virgin back end is complete crap and their hardware cant cope with the demand. Now this, I find totally unacceptable.

VM is quite spotty but if you get a good area its worth it.

How do you know if you're in a good area or not without trying it?

I am currently on be but I am only getting 4 meg out of my 24 meg which I am paying for and i'm moving house soon so hopefully I can get better speeds.

I've been with VM for about 5 years and its always been excellent. Full advertised speed and as far as i remember no downtime. But I know for other areas theyre not as good. I'm the Swindon area FYI

VM is the fastest in the UK.

It's not cheap, but you are paying for a premium service.

Customer service is actually pretty good. If you can get hold of the direct numbers to support, then it's in the UK and very good. But you sometimes have to go through an Indian call centre to get the direct numbers.

In 18 months I've had my service go off once for about 4 hours. Other than that download speeds and uptime are very high and reliable.

It would have to be a very very good alternative for me to switch.

I have Virgin media and its wonderful, latency is always lower than 10 in games like source and such and i can always stay connected and downloading at 4.4Mbp/s is lovely things have never been so fast
