Last 3 or 4 days I haven't been able to play any online games due to my pings being between 180 and 500+ms to my favourite servers in all games I've tried :(

VM say there is nothing wrong with my connection, which is BS because there is, and that there is nothing more they can do :(

To be fair if I wasn't a gamer the service is fine for web and streaming video. Any ideas on what to do? It was fine on Monday/Tuesday

Here's some stats from my router:

Modem Status
Connection Status Connected
Us Rate (Kbps) 448
Ds Rate (Kbps) 8128
US Margin 29
DS Margin 11
Trained Modulation GDMT
LOS Errors 0
DS Line Attenuation 16
US Line Attenuation 7
Peak Cell Rate 1056 cells per sec
CRC Rx Fast 5
CRC Tx Fast 0
CRC Rx Interleaved 0
CRC Tx Interleaved 0
Path Mode Fast Path

DSL Statistics
Near End F4 Loop Back Count 0
Near End F5 Loop Back Count 0

Never the sync speed is as good as it has always been, just latency is an issue. Is the noise margins ok?

My ping is about 10 times what is was a week ago to the same server. VM say there is nothing wrong and nothing they can do

Speed test at 5pm on a Sunday

Used to be about 5mb+ but apparently 1mb is perfectly acceptable on an up to 10mb service

Loads of latency on the first VM server hops. Anyone got any advice? Might just tell Virgin to shove its service where the sun doesn't shine

I am hard wired to the router in case anyone asks, the wifi is locked down with a 10 digit WPA2 psk and no other devices are connected

Best just to keep on at them, And if you get an offshore call center they will probably tell you its fine like with my modem last week. Wait until just after 8am tomorrow morning and you should get somebody from the UK. You will have a far higher chance of getting somewhere with them.
Tried this?

Thanks Jayster, doesn't really apply to National (ADSL via copper) customers. I might just tell em to shove it. I am out of contract but only have BT, Sky or Talk Talk to choose from. BT had their chance a couple of years ago... Service was fine but they never billed me. Called several times and even wrote to them. They never sent a bill until they disconnected me for non payment!

I thought talk talk where pretty good? A few of my friends have them and dont have any problems. I'm guessing your street isn't cabled?

Only Talk Talk are an LLU operator on the Belfast Malone exchange :(

They'll almost certainly be much better for you than VM ADSL, which is pretty notorious for being greatly oversubscribed and having horrible latencies during peak periods.

Don't let VM tell you it's OK, even if it works for browsing - 384ms to a local server is nothing like an acceptable ping. Your router stats look fine. Just classic symptoms of an overcrowded network, I'm afraid.

Cable on either side, none down my street! I guess ISPs much of a muchness, I have heard bad things about talk talk though, I guess you only hear when things are bad!

Complained on Monday morning again, got through to a nice Scottish lady, low and behold Monday evening my pings are better than they ever were!?

Will see if that was a flash in the pan :D

Same server as above:

Not amazing compared to some on here I know :)

Just for giggles, Belfast to Rotterdam

i'm in exactly the same position as you. online gaming/interactive work very difficult to impossible at times. synched @ 5Mb, getting 1Mb. ppp drop outs nightly whilst maintaining synch. vm adsl is the worst i've ever used.

looks like talktalk llu is in my area too tho :)

Not available to me on LLU. Any idea if I phoned BT and asked them when more providers will be available would they have an idea? We're supposed to get Infinity but that's "some time between 2011 and 2012" :/

They won't know anything.

Go with a decent provider who uses a BT wholesale product.
