I just got a Q6600 in, now I have overclocked a few of these now legendary chips.

But i have never had one that done this:

Now thats not stable, I can run 3D mark, super Pi, recode a AVI to DVD but prime only lasts about an hour (53 min).

I can push the volts up to 1.54 for stable (tested 3 hours prime, and intel burn test passed)

Last few Q6600's I have had wouldnt look at 4GHz unless 1.6v and more was pushed through them.

Stress test temps and screens will be up later (Sunday) but I just thought I would share my initial findings.

Wow:eek:. My Q6600 has the same VID of 1.2625v but I doubt I would be able to reach 4GHz. :(. It can comfortably reach 3.2GHz but then again my cpu cooler is outdated.

OP is your cpu watercooled?

Crikey, my q6600 has a VID of 1.2125. Makes me wonder what I could do with smoe better cooling.

Those idle temps are lower than my case ambient :o

VID is a good indicator but I have had lower VID Q6600's than this and never been @ 4GHz with less than 1.58.

Jeez the last Q6600 I had was the same VID and wouldn't see 4GHz with 1.6-1.7v never got it above 3.8GHz
Cant wait to get some time, going to push for 4.5Ghz

Nope just custom water.......well thats not strictly true.

Setup:

Black Ice SR-1 360 Radiator (yate loons, push/pull, built in to a wall pulling air from directly outside)

D5 pump (running at medium, best performace I found with the RAD and waterblock combo i have)

OCZ Hydro (washer contact pressure upgrade)

3/8 feser tubes.

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR

If any board is better than the P5Q deluxe for getting the most out a Q6600 its yours.

Just so you know I have a 3870 in my set up right now, with the quad and 3D mark 06:

Rough numbers: (from memory)
(note the 3870 is not overclocked)

@3GHz 10300
@3.2GHz 11000
@3.4GHz 11800
@3.6Ghz 13000
big jump
@4GHz 13100

Kind of shows, even with a older card the bottle neck is there until 3.6GHz.

When I get time I will get links and screens of everything I do.

Nice clock! What are your load temps @ 1.54v?

54c (only a 15 min test to check, so after a few hour I would be thinking 60c

I've got a Q6600 in the post on its way to me. The owner's never overclocekd it, and it's a G0, so I'm hoping it's a good one. I'll be happy with anything over 3GHz TBH, but more would be nice (setting my aim low to avoid disappointment!).

I doubt it'll be as good as yours though!

It was out of a Acer PC I got this, no overclocking in the BIOS so I feel safe to say its likely never been OC'ed.

Seems a waste to drop such a chip in a OEM PC, but well how do they know.

Hope your quad is a blinder, I like to see these chips do well.

I would be more than happy to get 3.6 out of it on air with a decent cooler but no pressing need until i get a better gpu too.

Cheers. :)

I've also got an Asus P5Q SE Plus on the way. Probably not the best mobo for rinsing a Q6600, but hopefully I'll manage something decent!

GAH! I was happy getting my Q6600 to 3.6Ghz last week! My VID is 1.300V so not even that brilliant, but I am still happy. Cant remember what Vcore I am running either, its somewhere between 1.4-1.5V I think.

Cheers. :)

That P45 chipset will make short work of a quad, only real difference I can see overclocking wise to the deluxe is 8-Phase Power.

What Im saying is the Asus P5Q SE Plus will be great.
