Could this be the TFT to finaly get :D

No pivot function, no purchase.
Seriously why can't someone make a display with pivot function thats 24" <£300 and has good viewing angles vertically that isn't plagued by quality control issues (BenQ i'm looking at you)

because most people who only have £300 to spend on a monitor don't need good viewing angles

I think he was meaning something like a 24" version of the U2311H. No extra bells and whistles, no WCG-CCFL and no significant extra cost. There is of course more to IPS tech. than better viewing angles and I'd like to see if Dell can pull something along those lines out of the hat. I suppose the extra inch isn't a big deal really but some people seem to have a 24" or nothing mentality. ;)

Unfortunately they look like 1080 not 1200 monitors. I'm really not keen on the lack of vertical space on all these 1080 monitors. Whoever thought it was a good idea needs a good kicking ;)

I was more refering to a U2410 with a simple dvi + DP connection.
i prefer a 16:10 aspect ratio, i have little vision and no useful vision for monitor use from my right eye so widescreen has little use to me, with a 1920X1200 monitor in portrait i can shove all the toolbars to the left and have a full 1920 verticle pixels while maintainng enough horizontal resolution for webpages to not need to be scrolled horizontally though i can still use 1080 horizontal pixels i'd just prefer toolbars on the side where i've had them for years.
Anything lower than a 24" monitor with that kind of resolution has a pixel pitch that strains my eyes when reading text.

If i had better sight i could probably use a 1920X1080 display without wasting a lot of horizontal space in landscape with a 22" panel.
it just vexes me that the jump from 'just barely what i want' to 'ah perfect' is such a huge price increase. i'm only 17 i've been saving up money for uni fees for years i don't want to have to spend a few months income on a monitor!

As i would be using the monitor in portrait mode the verticle viewing angles then turn to horizontal viewing angles, which with a TN panel is simply awful for me (i'm not exactly capable of staying still, range of head positions covers ~ a foot sideways while a forearm length away from the monitor, which with a 9:16 aspect ratio then translates to a heck of a colour change in lower quality small monitors.)

Pretty much my requirements are <£300, 24"or more (or more accurately 0.2692 mm pixel pitch or more), Good vertical viewing angles, Pivot to portrait, 1920X1200 preferred, 1080 acceptable, 8bit panel (ruling out majority of TNs) and something that isn't going to require half a dozen returns until i get a good quality monitor

The BEnQ BL2400PT fails at the last hurdle there, and only reaches acceptable for the resolution :(

Well that is a shame. I hope this year brings you the monitor you're looking for as although you have some quite specific requirements I know many people share this desire.

The HP ZR24w meets most, if not all, your requirements. It's completely sold out everywhere now though (must've been really popular over Xmas) but it's about £300-£320, IPS (8 bit) so has good viewing angles, 24" 1920x1200 (0.27mm dot pitch), can rotate to portrait and has DVI & DP.

^ pretty sure it was discontinued not sold out as HP probably realised people were still buying the old model for a bit more or the u2311H for quite a bit less and there wasn't really a market for the ZR24w

This was my understanding as well which is why I didn't mention it. I was hoping they would replace it this year with something similar though.

Really? Well that's news to me.

Sure it wasn't as popular as say the U2311H, but there was definitely a market for it -for all the people who wanted a U2410 (essentially 24" 16:10 IPS), but couldn't afford it or didn't want the wide gamut. It's still being sold in America I believe, unless that's just the last of their stock.

The older LP2475w is discontinued as well isn't it (or at least I think it's meant to be)? So basically HP currently don't have a high-ish end 24"? I'd imagine they'll fill in that hole with something else if what you're saying is true.
