Boincoid - BOINC on Android

Stumbled on this while looking for any fun apps for android phones and thought you guys might be interested to see it.

Obviously a phone won't churn out massive points, but the idea is definitely a good one, especially if it can get wide-spread appeal to android phone owners, it may be able to contribute a decent amount with the massive amount of phones going.

Interesting idea, it would be a massive battery drain though and probably slow most of the phones functions downs quite a bit. I could only imagine people using it whilst there phone was charging.

From the FAQ

We intend the Boincoid users to switch on the processing at night, when their phone is charging and idle. This is indeed to save battery time for daily usage. In future versions the client will recognize the charger state, and will switch on/off automatically.

This could be a battery killer, and not in the sense you're thinking. Li-ion batteries don't like heat - indeed it can prematurely age them. My iPhone gets pretty warm after a long session but that's a combination of the CPU, the screen, and my hands, so I'm not sure how much of an issue this could be.
