Following on from going to Oulton Park at the end of January, pictures here and here.

Riding on a wave of good feelings from the car behaving well at Oulton I booked to go back to Cadwell Park. I last came here at the end of October last year which was my first proper trackday in nearly 2 years and first full day.

Got home OK, just totalling up the damage to my wallet now! Need new rear pads/discs, brake fluid change, oil change and then have to see about the windscreen since it now has a chip/crack in it.

Oh and I hit a bird on the way home too

I did spend £170 (12mpg while on track..) on super unleaded in total and got home with the light on... :o

Got to say though, they are amazing cars on track, I was passing pretty much all the "normal" stuff, just the caterhams and the race cars coming past. The car was massively fast through Barn, Coppice and Charlies 1 & 2, not quite so good in the tighter stuff compared to another 306 that was modified (stripped, coilovers, buckets) that a member of the owners club brought but it was equal to or greater than it in the quick sections!

New hot hatches are a royal PITA with poor drivers, I spent 2-3 laps sat behind an S3 and a mk1 FRS who I was miles faster than in the corners but come to a straight and one stomp of the loud pedal sees them pull out a large gap and they refuse to pull over. Both sporting novice stickers so it figures, the S3 did improve in the afternoon and looked to be going OK then.

Yeah the Rallye is such a hoot to drive, looks like you had a lot of fun. :)

Annoying that people don't move over to let the quicker car through! Shame people can't leave their egos at home...

Is that Si's car you're referring to there? If so, any pics of his on track?

Looks good though, great looking car. Any plans to supercharge this one?

Looks awesome, how much does this kind of event cost?

And what mods are you running?

The day itself was quite cheap at £99 for open pitlane. Last reasonably cheap day I could find which is why I booked it. The prices rise to £150+ during summer.

Then I used a tank of fuel to get me there and back to the track. £70

Two tanks of fuel on track (keeping the tank above 1/4 full to stop any fuel starvation). £100

Other costs are obviously tyres, brake pads etc.

The only real mods are:

Setrab 16 row 235mm oil cooler with Mocal braided lines and thermostatically controller spacer plate. Keeps oil temperatures to 120C all day long no matter how many laps.

OMP front strut brace, which I fitted after Oulton, and can't notice a difference!

Ferodo DS2500 front pads.

Toyo R888s fitted to track wheels.

It wasn't Si's car no, he's not finished his yet.

No plans to supercharge it, I got rid of the Xsara to save money, rather than spending money on mods or shiny bits I am just doing more trackdays!

I can't say I don't miss it, as it would have been nice to have, rather than the more powerful cars holding me up then blasting away I would have ripped past them! Down Park Straight I was reaching 110-115 in my Xsara, in the Rallye it was more like 105, and I was probably carrying 10-15mph more corner speed in the Rallye onto the straight to begin with.

Reminds me of this Rev's cover from back in the day :D

Inquired with a 35k mile black 306 rallye on pistonheads the other day but 12 years old, 5 owners and bugger all service history. Yep that'll be genuine! :(

Thats where I ripped the title from, but made it family friendly!

Mine has 105k and plenty of previous owners!

I think for future I might see about getting a single cheap bucket seat and just bolting it in for trackdays. The standard bolsters can't support me enough, I use a CG-Lock to help hold me in the seat, but in some of the longer corners I move around too much. My right knee has bruises on it from hitting the door handle!

No surprise you were passing the normal stuff with R888s on :d

I would say 80-90% of people use track tyres, or the half-way house rubber now, those new Yoko Neova or Toyo R1-Rs. The Integra in the video was fully track/race prepped with nothing but a cage and drivers seat.

I have used Eagle F1s and T1-R on track, but both were a little soft and didn't last very well. Took several mm off the T1-R in a single summer session.

Have to keep up with the Jones's, and I would rather wear my track tyres out instead of the road ones.
