I have a post in the ForSale forum which got closed due to me mentioning i was selling my dads ipad. The mod closed it because i must be in possession of the goods.

I am already in possession of the goods and i am personally ready to ship them as soon as they sell. The only reason i mentioned i was not the original owner was because i have recently sold a couple of similar items and was being open and honest about the origin of the goods.

I have tried to contact the mod who closed the post via email and ICQ but he is not responding. Are there any other mods who can help?

Thanks a lot

but you admitted you're selling it for your dad

unless you own the item but selling for your dad lol we are not fool sorry.

2.5.5 - Do not list items within a For Sale thread unless you have full possession of them. This means you do not sell goods to which you do not yet own or are unable to ship immediately. This also means that you do not sell on behalf of a friend or other third party. - ThundyCat.

he underlined it for you himself.

I would have thought family was a pointless application of the rule? Surely it's only used to keep random scallywags out of MM.

buy it off your Dad for 1 pence, relist item?

i dont really understand... I am in possession of the thing that I am selling.

My dad has given it to me and i am selling it. I have two previous sales of a similar item in my trust, so i thought i was being helpful by explaining.

I understand why the rule exists... so that people dont try to sell items and then whelch on it when they cannot fulfil the delivery on time or indeed cannot ship the goods at all.... but in my case i am in possession and as far as i am concerned, therefore the owner.

I should have said 2 careful owners... my father and myself (for one day) :)

so would i be ok to re-post tomorrow as the new owner?

I can understand the mod closing the thread given what was written in it... but now i have explained i do not really understand why it would be a problem?

OK Fair enough.... it is what it is.

I have just spoken to my father and negotiated a fair sale of the item to myself. I will now re-list the item.

Thanks for the input guys

If you buy it off him for 1p you can only sell it for 1p. The MM cant be used to make profits!
TBH, i would just have said that it was my dads but is now mine. Relist tomorrow. Even better, relist today

you said you were selling on behalf of a 3rd party which would seem a clear breach of the rules to me, MM rules are enforced to the letter so everyone knows where they stand

yeah fair enough. The rules are there to protect everyone right. thats what makes the MM safe to trade in.

I will try to make sure i remain within the rules, when i repost.

Surely a bit of common sense comes in to play here? It's his dad, not some random peson or even a friend. Surely it's just the same as if you were selling something your wife paid for? haha

Perhpas some common sense should have been applied in this case.

Selling something for his dad, which is in his possession shouldn't really be an issue - now he's able to sell it within the rules because he's able to state that his dad has 'given' the item to him I'm sure he can then 'give' an amount equal to the amount of the sale to his dad too or maybe his dad intended him to keep the proceeds all along - either way its just going to involved a re-post with a slightly different wording on the part of the OP when in reality nothing has changed.

At the end of the day its strict and that protects us... if you relist it i would imagine that would be seen as waving 2 fingers and would expect it closed again with a free holiday. At the end of the day its not ebay... you don't have a god given right to sell it on here.

Unfortunately common sense is somewhat uncommon these days.....
