F1 2010 Race Thread

Inspired by SPARC's F1 2010 Time Trials thread, it seems that it is about time we started an equivalent race thread.

This is all theoretical at this stage, but I quite like the idea of running a multiplayer grand prix race at the same point as the current F1 season visits a track, tallying up points after each Grand Prix, and running an OCUK F1 Championship.

I'd envisage that most folk viewing this thread and even perhaps those thinking of participating are indeed F1 fans, and as such would be available on the Sunday of a GP. This would synchronise quite nicely with SPARC's time trial thread, as everyone participating within the time trial would be well prepared for a race at the end of each time trial period.

15 Minute Qualifying Session
20% Race Distance
Equal Car Performance
All Assists Allowed (to accommodate everyone, of course)
Full Penalty System
Tyre Sim on
Fuel Sim on
Full Collisions
Dynamic Weather

Due to the Force India pitlane bug that plagues the game there will be 11 slots for each race.

After a successful first race in Sepang and a hilarious run round Melbourne, this week it's the turn of Shanghai at 18:00 17/04/11

Please don't be afraid to participate - it's more for a giggle than anything else so drivers of all abilities are welcomed - no 107% rules here!

Registering interest. Only real preference would be a 20% distance.

edit:

I'm just trying to think how it could work with only allowing 12 people per race. How about this.... A league based system (promotions/relegations every 5 races) splitting people based on ability. The time-trials thread is a good indication of ability.

I'd guess if we have more than 12 folk, we can just run separate races split by ability.

I would be up for this

What time is after noon though as I could be up my parents some Sunday's. My preference would be 20% with maybe some replays due to crashes that are often going to happen on the first lap or so.

Too long and it will exclude people with time pressures. I will have to sit the first couple of races out, unless I can use the 360 pad. I don't have my G27 with me at the moment.

Not a big deal if you need to use a pad, is it? It's more than compatible.

Thinking that we schedule the race for 4:30pm on Sunday, as that's about 45 minutes after the re-run finishes on the BBC. Will update the first post to reflect this.

Oh, and I still need niggyg's live tag.

Changed first post to reflect the fact that everyone wants a 20% race. No need to post a preference from here on out. Could do with five or so more registering their interest so we can get a full race going.

Ah, such a shame I am working this weekend. I haven't done a time trial for ages. What with playing DCUO, Crysis 2 and now Shift 2 lately. However, this sounds like an awesome plan. So I will probably do it on the next race.

What graphics mod do people reccomend using these days?

I basically just want the game to look less washed out without looking like a nintendo game.

I downloaded one ages ago but I couldnt work out how to install it, something thats got a simple .exe setup would be ideal.

I used this. It makes a big difference and it's not too saturated like some of the others out there.

It's an easy install - just replace a folder.
