Hey, I was recommended here to find some people with better knowledge than me and know how to spend their money wisely on components.

I'm looking to build a base unit gaming rig for between £400-£500 and would appreciate room for upgrades in the future. I'm a student going to Uni in september so I know you'll appreciate how tight on money I actually am.

Cheers for the help!

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply! That looks a good build for the cost aswell. Yeah I'm gonna need an OS, I'm sorry I didn't mention. How can I get Win 7 on the cheap, if you don't mind explaining?

MSDNAA

You'll need to ask your uni for details. Might only be available to IT students as well, not sure though.

are you doing anything to do with systems engineering (basically any course loosely related to IT). if you are you almost certainly can get a free copy of windows 7 via the ELMS system.

not sure what universities use this system, but Reading certainly does

Its not a bad list up there. You might be able to cut the cost a little with an AMD CPU but i wouldnt.

Think every man and his dog has a cracked copy of win7,ask in the pub you will get one. Then when you have a bit more cash get the ligit one.

Electronic Engineering

I do electrical and electronic engineering in Queens,Belfast, and i get access to msdnaa and windows7 for free, but thats prob mainly due to us being in the same department as computer science, you might be best just buying it for the £40 using the software4students link above

Or if you have any friends that are doing computing they can get it for you, got one of the guys living above me right now doing it for me at weekend.

Unfortunately, I can't afford it at the moment in time as my Dad has decided that he couldn't put forward the money that he was going to quite right now. After these two weeks I won't have time to build it due to finishing my A-Levels (Examsssss... Bites Fingernails). Thanks for all the help people. To quote Arnie, "I'll be back." To see if this fine community can spec me a better rig even if it is only 2 months that passes.

Cheers again!
