Hey guys,

I really need to get my hands on a Samsung Galaxy S usb jig or the parts to make one today, anyone know anywhere around the Oldham area that sells 301k resistors? Otherwise, anyone around manc have a pre-made samsung usb jig? (301k resistor accross pins 4 and 5 on a micro usb plug)

Cheers

Tom.

Hi, you should be able to find an ocuk competitor which sells resistors most large cities, if you can't get an exact 301k resistor (which is a rather strange value), then wire up 3 x 100k and a 1k ohm resistor in series to get 301k. :)

The rules prevent me from naming names, but you shouldn't have too much trouble finding shops selling resistors with the aid of google.

Finally, whats a USB jig?

Yep, that the place. If you check their website, they should have the opening hours on there and they also show you if the resistors you want are in stock at your nearest store.

You may also find a branch of RS near you, but I've found RS to be more hassle as you only seem to be able to order online once you have an account, even if you then want to collect your parts. You may be able to just walk in and ask for the parts, but I've not tried in myself. Also with RS you often need to order items like resistors in multiples of 10 or even 50!

You may get lucky with a small local electrical shop, but they are few and far between these days, but if you find one then they should sell resistors. You may get lucky with the Yellow Pages...

Im in oldham, nearest RS is stockport so might as well go to the other place by the time ive done that.

tried everywhere local i can think of, and no luck :(

Cheers for your help though

No problem, if it's any consolation I've experienced similar problems in Bristol, there used to be an awesome little electrical shop that would sell individual resistors and many other parts that are normally a pain to get hold of... It's a shame they are no longer in business however, but shops like these seem to be a thing of the past. :(

Now I just order stuff from Farnell, the only problem is that you have to wait for postage but at least they have a good range of stuff.

Good luck. :)

I tried to order from farnell but they want a min. order of £20, even 50 of them are only £3!

Yep, I often wait until I needs a load of electrical parts and place a big order, and if I'm a little short of the £20, then I just browse the site for money off offers... I remember ordering around 40 XLR connectors from them last time, because they had them on offer... :o

Ordering £20 worth of stuff for only a few pence worth of resistors does seem a little silly however...

Check out ebay item 160530070617, you won't need the 1k extra resistor if you have a multimeter, as none of the resistors will be exactly 100k, just choose the ones which measure just over 100k in order to get your 301k value. :)
