I recently bought a Corsair HS1-A headset (non-usb) for use with my Xfi Xtreme Audio card.

They are extremely comfortable and the microphone is great, I'm finding the music a little lacking in punch and distorted compared to my HD-555s.

I played around with the equalizer and got it sounding better but I feel there is something missing. I usually listen to hiphop/electro/house/dance/rock.

Will they improve with burn in?

Would I benefit from a FiiO E5 Headphone Amplifier for use with the headset or would a better soundcard be in order?

I know this isn't too helpful, but I did hear there was a slight lack of bass from the Corsair HS-range. I just ordered the HS1 usb headset myself, I have heard that with lots of tweaking with the software the problem can be remedied.

They're a 40 quid headset. Of course they're going to be worse than HD-555's.

It'd be pointless to buy a new sound card to accommodate a cheap headset wouldn't it?

If you have some HD555's, why are using the Corsair's for music? Headsets are generally rubbish at music in comparison to a decent pair of headphones. To get a headset that comes close to headphones when it comes to music, you have to pay a premium.

Agree with you here, many reviews of the Corsair HS series have said they are superior to many headphones and other brands for gaming & movies, but are lacking in the music department.

Fair enough, thanks for the input. Main reason I was asking is because I use voice comms a great deal, so changing headphones is a bit of a hassle. I guess I'll live with it :)

Like you, I also use voicecoms all the time. I tend to use a mix of 5.1 speakers, but when other people in the house are asleep then I switch to headphones.
Last year I decided to stop using headsets and get a desk mic and a pair of Sennheiser headphones, and let me tell you, I'm not changing back again.

Just a cheap mic that sits on my desk just to the left of keyboard. That way you have a much bigger market of good headphones to choose from. I didn't splash out on them, only Sennheiser 438's...which were 70 quid at the time.

O and I was dubious about desk mic too, but the voice quality seems fine over teamspeak.

You could buy a a Male to Female 3.5mm extension and have the Female end on your desk then switch to and from which ever headphone you want to use at the time.

Not sure you can compare Audiophile headphones to Gamer headphones, Gamer headphones as a genreal rule are cheap components then marketed with fancy colours and packaging, Not to say all gamer headsets are bad afew of them are nice.

I was previously using a logitech desktop usb microphone with my hd 555s. The pickup was far too sensitive as it picked up my keyboard and sounds from outside no matter how much I tweaked the settings. Then I tried a speedlink clip on which was even worse with hissing Mic boost. I tried to avoid headsets but just gave up because I could not find a quality Mic for less than £100.
