Hey all

Well my contract ends next month with Virgin Mobile, hating the Nokia 5800 now :p

I don't want to go on another contract really and will go on the Virgin Mobile - Virgin Media customer Sim only 30day rolling contract: 200 minutes, unlimited texts, 1GB internet. It will do the job :)

So I'm looking for a PAYG phone, preferably want a reasonable decent camera as one of the higher priorities. The Wildfire S can be had from the rainforest website for £207 or £229 (colour differences)
Never used Android either so would be nice to try it out over iOS.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

The original Samsung Galaxy S if you can get hold of one, still one of the best single core Android handsets out there!

^ Yep, the wildfire S is a very minor update (slightly higher res screen, memory but still the slow ARM11 SoC) A £99 Orange San Fransisco is very similar (even better screen) but much cheaper.

For £200-£250 you can get something miles better (all have distinctly average 5mp shooters)

Android:
HTC Desire Z, HTC Desire, Motorola Milestone 2, Motorola Defy, Samsung Glalaxy S

WP7:
LG Optimus 7, Refurbished Samsung Omnia 7

(My personal pick... the Desire Z from somewhere like *vowel*buyer)

If you want a small screen phone with a powerful SoC/great camera, best wait for the SE xPeria Mini/pro/neo in a few months.

Thanks :)

Will go and read up on both of them. The Desire Z looks alright, £263.99 as well. The Desire seems to be over 300 a long with the Galaxy S (presumably a older model was out)

would you be willing to buy a used one?

Possibly... if in good condition.

The owner of the newsagent around the corner was thinking of selling his iPhone 4 16GB when his contract is over, he mentioned £250. Shame his thing is over in December lol!

Umm

All phones can be unlocked right to any network, suck as the Samsung Galaxy S? So if I bought a 3 phone I could unlock it to Virgin.... And how, or where?

That's right, normally you can find codes online for free or buy them on ebay. If the worst comes to the worst you'll have to go into the store and get the shop to unlock it.

Cheers, I looked at the N8, wouldn't mind trying out Android though so :) Placed a bid on eBay on a Samsung Galaxy S, its locked on 3 though to be honest the sim only contracts on free are just as good. Not sure how the signal is around here, though VM isn't great

with good camera as an important must have then do you realise the galaxy has no camera flash ?

if sony hurry up with the 2.3 update or you can be bothered rooting and putting modded firmware on it then the X10 is a used bargain

edit-ooops too slow

Yes I know that, shouldn't be used in dark light anyway so :) -hopes for the best--

I think with phones there are just so many you could go back and forth all day between them with their disadvantages and advantages.
For the price I'm sure I'll be happy with it, and found out I can get £50 from my Nokia from envirophone so :)

Just now need to look into unlocking the phone and Android apps and android in general lol

being me, i get things done quick lol.

Purchased the Galaxy S, £191 inc postage.

Good choice sir. My other phone is a SGS and they are bloody marvellous. Definitely the best of what's being offered in this thread.
I've never found the lack of flash a problem as they take good pics in very low light anyway.

Certainly keep you eyes out for the Samsung S.
When looking on EBay search for things like galxy and other wrongly spelt versions.
Last week I bought a Mint Galaxy S for £170 - the advert had Galaxy spelt as above so that might have helped.

Paid a bit more then you then hehe.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....616357&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1156wt_932 one I bought. Just bought a cheap case, will see how it is.

I would hope people can spell galaxy hehe... I was watching another and that went for like £200+postage. Had no pictures either!

How are you liking the phone?

Wait and GET THAT. They're going for £400ish on Ebay. I just bought a iPhone 3GS 32gb for £200 off ebay and that's in good condition.

My wife loves it.
She really wanted to get something Android, but as she's a SIM Only customer it wasn't going to be cheap.
Looked at the "budget" Android phones but then saw the Galaxy S phones going for a reasonable price.

I own one of the first HTC Desire's so my phone also has an AMOLED screen.
Now I love my Desire, but I think the Galaxy S is a beautiful phone, a little longer but thinner than the Desire.
And the screen is to die for.
