Need someone to explain this please :)

Trying to work this out and I don't understand any of it.

What I want to know is.

If I use two tubs of ant killer will the poison be double?

One tub is 300g and has 0.5% poison.

If I used x2 300g will it be 1%

On the bottle is says contains 0.5 poison followed by w/w

Search for w/w and got this.

But I just done get it :(

Thanks :)

No. You would have 600g at 0.5%

Oh right. Hmmm

My friend Andrew asked his gardener to treat some ants. And Andrew said use two tubs. This has lead to 30 dead fish all koi carp. Gardener is saying you told me use two tubs so the poison is twice as strong.

So if that's the case, it sounds like poison has got into water.

Andrew is about as clued up as me when it comes to maths and % lol

Yikes, that's not good! Aren't koi rather expensive? Plus you'll have to empty the water now surely?

They vary in price I think, from around £100 each to over £1000 each. Either way 30 koi carp dead is not a good thing.

They were awesome. He had a stainless tank, massive water heater and treatment thing.

2x 300g with 0.5% poison = 3g of poison.
1x 300g with 0.5% poison = 1.5g poison.

So ignoring percentiles and looking purely at the amount of poison, yes, there is double.

weight for weight (w/w) dry it's 0.5% but that goes out the window when you pour it into a fish tank, it dissolves and yes there will be twice as much concentration (weight per volume water) of poison as if you'd use one tub.

But why did he put the poison in the fish tank? Surely that's stupid, if he put it in a place where it would wash into the tank when it rained that's pretty stupid too. What does he want an ortopsy to say if one tub would have been enough to kill the fish?

How about he save you the time and try the experiment himself - dissolve one tub into a gallon of water and drink it. Surely one tub can't hurt?

I assumed koi would be kept in a pond? Some of them grow pretty big. Ponds = gardens = ants in close proximity I guess. Throw in some rain and all you need is some batter & chips and you've got yourself a rather pricey fish supper.

Looks like your friend might be sleeping with the fishes soon enough! :o

Poor fish, but for gods sake, anyone using poison anywhere near a pond is madness.
