For Gaming: Samsung BX2335 vs Dell U2311H

So, I can't make a decision between the two. My budget was going to bed £150 (in which case I'd go for the Samsung) but I can't help thinking that I'd be missing out on the best 23" monitor if I didn't get the Dell (£210). I'd be using the monitor primarily for gaming (WoW, Starcraft 2), maybe the occasional HD movie watching but that isn't important at all since I have a PS3 and 40" TV.

I've done a lot of research and these are the two I've narrowed it down to. I don't want to get a 24" because the price gap is just too huge.

So, basically, my question is this; how big is the difference between the two? Is the Dell even the outright winner here? The Dell boasts an 8ms response time whilst the Samsung has a 2ms response time so that further makes me query the claim that the Dell is the best 23" on the market.

Any input is appreciated. Many thanks. =)

Hi there,

I would recommend having a look at this very good an in-depth review.

As for the response time figure - since the Dell uses a high quality, but slower IPS type panel then the response time is going to be slower on the Dell compared to the TN panel Samsung. However, if you have a look at the reviews and the user experience (have a search for u2311H on these forums) you will see that playing games on the U2311H is great and the slower response time isn't really an issue.

In conclusion - go for the dell. It's a much better quality screen, it looks great and plays games well.

If you're gaming I can't recommend the Dell enough.

The performance is outstanding, it's even better than my 24 inch version for games.
To qualify my statement, i'm normally ultra sensitive to ghosting on LCD screens, every screen up to and including my 24 inch dell has given me ghosting, but it's literally gone for the u2311h.

Perfect gaming monitor, I can't see how anyone could regret one of these. In fact, we like this one so much we're about to order a second for our other gaming pc.

You won't regret getting the dell u2311h.

No problem when playing bfbc2 and watching movie is brilliant. I got my u2311h for £165 = )

It does seem like the Dell would be guaranteed to please. Thank you very much for all the comments so far.

It's a shame no-one's got much to say on the Samsung. Reviews across the web seem very favourable but gaming reviews are hard to find. I'm splasing out £850 on a PC, which is obviously why I'm looking to cut back on the cost of the monitor as much as possible. Though it looks like I'm being swayed towards the Dell even more and more. :(

Could I ask where you purchased it from?

That's got gimmick 3D on it though, and I have a ATI 6950 so no 3D for me

I am kinda settling on the Dell, just looking for other user's experiances

Most people who buy that screen don't use the 3D. It's the 2D that really shines to eliminate ghosting in FPS'.

For fast paced games, and Starcraft might just about come under that if your a hardcore player, then the 120Hz, low input latency panels will be a lot better than the dell - which has atleast 2 frames of input lag - which casual players might not notice but for fast paced games you will be at a bit of a disadvantage.

Bought the dell 23 as a primary gaming monitor and haven't had a any regrets, fps, don't notice any ghosting or smearing, and the colours are awesome, ips for me from now on.

crysis 2,metro 2033,fear,witcher2,black ops, assassins creed, mass effect 1and 2,starcfaft 2, never had any problems playing any of these games on the dell mate.

I am thinking of ordering a U2311H this weekend, which will be my first IPS panel. I am however a little concerned by what Roff has posted above as I do mainly play online FPS games, though after reading a couple of reviews and from most peoples comments on here the general consensus seems to be that it is fine for gaming...
