I enjoy reading write ups of various cars on here I thought I'd return the favour. Always helpful when researching for the next purchase
I purchased the zed back in January for £7500, original thread here
Its a 53 plate UK GT, FSH, gunmetal grey with the black and alezan leather interior, it had 55k on the clock when I picked it up. It was a bit of an impulse buy at the time, however I felt it was such a good deal I couldn’t let it pass me by.
7 Months on and its now just ticked over 60k so I thought id start with a breakdown of costs so far.
I had a P3 service carried out when I first picked it up. All fluids changed, engine, transmission, diff, new Cosworth panel filter, aux belts replaced and also a new set of plugs. In total including labour £380. Oil and filter change a couple of days ago £55.
MPG is currently sitting at 21 that’s with a mixture of motorway and city driving. Around town and when hooning I've had it around 16-18MPG however a long cruise on the motorway I’ve had it in the high 20's. I've never had the inclination to try and get it any higher but I'm sure low/mid 30's could be achieved if I had the patience. I don't.
Insurance for the year through Elephant with 7 years NCD, 3 points, 29 years old and a city postcode. £710.
Onto the drive. Being the first rear wheel drive car I’ve owned I took it easy for a while and got to know the car before pushing it. As I started getting used to it I began pushing it a bit more, its easy to get the back end out and with the the TC on its hard to get into any serious trouble unless your REALLY trying. I have had turned the TC off on a few occasions and its mostly resulted in brown stains in my pants when getting the back end out but that’s more down to my lack of driving skill than the car. It does feel very planted and solid, a heavy weighty feel to the steering which inspires confidence.
The engine is fantastic and without a doubt the best feature of the car, lots of low down grunt and pulls strongly through the rev range. The power delivery feels very linear, no sudden kicks just a constant surge of power. As a result of the linear delivery its easy to forget how fast you can be going with what seems like very little effort. The car is completely standard bar a lightened flywheel which the previous owner had put in when the clutch was replaced. I'm not to keen on it if I’m honest the rattling noise it makes in the low reg range and when sitting idle annoys me. At some point I will have an OEM flywheel replace it. Previous owner had a Nismo exhaust on the car however he sold that separately to another forum member so its currently on its stock exhaust which I think sounds great as it is, a nice throaty rumble and I love the pops and bangs. When it needs replaced I’ll think about changing it for something else.
Gear change feels very mechanical and a short precise throw, does feel a bit clunky and snappy until its warmed up though. All cars I've driven since owning the Integra (bar the S2000) have been a bit of a disappointment in this area. The honda boxes are just sublime.
Interior is typical Jap, the seats are extremely comfortable however the dash is cheap japtastic plastics that seem to scratch if you even so much as look at them the wrong way. No rattles though and I’ve done quite a few long drives and found it a pleasant place to sit for a few hours.
Recently I’ve been looking at replacing the standard Rays, been thinking about a set of Rota GTR's or Varrosten's 300 series. There is a set of GTR's on the owners forum for sale at the moment which im considering....
I'm very happy with the zed at the moment, think I'll have it for a good couple of years at least. I still have a hankering for an S2000 which I think is an itch I'll have to scratch at some point.
Anyway onto the pics. Me and the Mrs went a little drive at the weekend up to Inverary and took a few photos. Stopped at Loch Fyne Oyster Bar for a good feed on the way home, it was bloody magic.
Setting off
Had a play with an Asbo on the way
Burning her bum on the bonnet
Fish supper
Vegitating
Our platter
Pudding
