Hi there, need some advice if possible.

My old PC has a Q6600 in it, something has died because the monitor is not recieving a signal. I have tested parts here and there and concluded that the hard drive is fine, monitor is fine, and gfx card is fine. PSU should be fine cos it is a good brand and relatively new.

I am therefore going to try replacing the motherboard first.

The current system has an Asus P5N-D motherboard with DDR2 800 RAM, nvidia 9800GTX+ and an Arctic 7 cooler. I also have available some spare DDR3 1333 RAM and a stock Intel LGA775 cooler.

I have two build options:

a) an Asus P5QPL-AM

this is compatible with a Q6600 and also DDR2 800 RAM. Alas it is currently out of stock, and costs £50-60 elsewhere.

b) a Gigabyte G41MT-S2P

this would require me to use my DDR3 RAM with my Q6600 , which I am not really too sure about settings for. also dont think the arctic cooler will fit, the RAM slots look very close to the CPU slot. on the up-side it is cheap and in stock here.

The system does not require any overclocking, it is just for general use (no gaming) for a Windows 7 media PC using old parts, and needs to be fairly quiet.

Does anyone have any advice on which option will work out best for me, or any other model of motherboard that is a better option?

Is the Q6600 compatible with DDR3 1333MHz RAM?

Sorry for asking newb questions, but cos this is an old generation of gear, it is difficult to locate the answers to my questions online these days when everywhere is swamped with current-gen info.
