Streaming 1080p mkv files from my server to my HTPC i notice on some films they stutter on fast moving scenes - unwatchable.

playing the same files from the internal HDD on the HTPC are fine.

Presume the network connection is at fault although the server is 1gbps hard wired to a superhub and the HTPC is connected wirelessly to this at over 130mbps - I didn't think there would be a problem.

Windows gives me the figure above as LAN status - Is this accurate?

Considering adding my old N+ router as an access point to the super hub to see if things improve? maybe running one on G and the other on 5ghz?

Anybody experienced anything similiar?

What server software are you using?

I use Serviio and had to increase the SocketBuffer so that it stops the stuttering on 1080p file streaming.

1080p + Wireless = No go.

Its extremely difficult to stream good quality 1080p content over wireless, even N. Hard wire or drop the quality to 720p.

This.

Switch to wired.

I have no problem streaming 1080p through my superhub to my WD Live box unless it's uncompressed BD.

it's only fast moving scenes it struggles on - everything else fine.

Fast moving scenes would probably be the times were the bitrate is the highest, thus causing the stuttering.

Try hard wiring it and see if it solves the problem. If it does, then its the wireless thats to blame.

I watched a 720p movie over wireless without even noticing yesterday :p It stuttered about twice overall - but I then tried another movie and it was unwatchable.

I then went back to my wired connection and it worked fine.

Streaming audio over wireless is fine, but to have a guarenteed smooth video stream, you need a wired connection.

Well wireless G is 54mbps in an ideal world assuming perfect connection. You won't get that. Let's say you get a realistic 40mbps. Now half that and you get the real speed as it's not full duplex. So that becomes around 20mbps. I can't be bothered to look it up but I assume wireless N 144mbps works the same at half duplex, so that's only going to be about 60-70mbps. I have seen films peak at bitrates in excess of 100mbps when streaming high quality rips.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head with that.
