iPlayer slow/unusable on iPad?

I have an iPad2 and use it on wifi through my Sky Netgear router. It surfs fine, downloads fine, etc - but iPlayer stutters and stops and usually barely gets going, whether it is via the app or the website.

iPlayer runs fine on my laptop via the same router.

Other players (eg, 4oD, ITV player, Sky player) all work fine via the iPad (via the router) so it just seems to be iPlayer and only through the iPad.

How can this be?

Yeah it's not working very well. Mine often just sits there spinning, been like it months. Try changing the DNS on the wifi connection, something like 8.8.8.8. Google's DNS

I get this too. It'll play fine for a bit and then conk out.

I'm using the same router as you but that might be coincidence.

One possible solution I've read is to disable the QoS on the router - this seems really successful in boosting the iPad download speed. But I don't think the Netgear router (at least not this one) has QoS.

I wouldn't mind but one speed tester I used earlier said I was getting 11Mbs which should be well enough to stream video.

Then I've read about the router wifi chip having "bad relations" with the ipad wifi chip. But if this was the case, why is everything apart from iPlayer ok?

AND i've not long bought one of those HDMI tv link ups specifically for the iPad - not cheap - and what do you need it for mostly? BBC iPlayer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get this too on my belkin router. Iplayer takes a good minute to start up, it also sometimes cuts out halfway through a TV program and begins to buffer again. It's definitely not the connection as it works fine on all other devices

Same thing happens to me, moved in with my GF who has a BT home hub. Iplayer cuts out after around 7 min's and never gets going again.

It never used to happen when I was on a Virgin connection and using my apple router.

I got this on my Netgear router. Changed to the Apple Airport Extreme and now works every time.

I tried reinstalling the app and that didn't help but I just restored and updated my ipad to the latest version of iOS and all seems to be working now.

Might be worth a try.

May as well add that I have this problem too, using Virgin Media router. One way I got round it was to decrease quality in the iplayer app

I have these problems, but I've also had the same issues with the original web-app that they provided. I'm sure it's something on their end.
