Remember OcUK sell games and hardware! Please do not talk about competitors to OcUK and openly name them, when they also sell hardware.

Thank you!

When you say openly name them, does that include all the references to stores but without directly saying their name, such 'the purple shirt store' and things like that?

It was established that we could talk about other online stores just not the core of ocuk business i.e pc hardware. Anywhere that sells games has been given the ok by ocuk mods awhile ago.

Why the change in stance?

Also ocuk selling games is weird as i dont think anyone buys from ocuk for games. Especially due to the lol thread a ex mod did if anyone remembers the lol prices :D

Not to mention digital distribution places.

The daily deals thread is great for spotting the odd deal that you would have missed normally. And not to mention the huge threads for the summer/winter sales.

They've been exempt in the past but is nice to have clarification.

Ok close steam threads, Close origin threads, Gamersgate and all other digital download threads. Because omg, GAMES

ocuk go back to selling hardware and stay away from games, you don't even have any good offers

The reason for this change of stance is due to Battlefield 3, are there any more rules ocuk that are yet to be in place that we don't know about?. What with emulator discussion being clamped down and now this

They cant otherwise pc gaming section would be pretty crap without them threads neil.

Imo it is a unruly decision. It cant possibly be enforced as theirs talk of it every day and quite a lot of posts about it.

I think you are right neil it is probably because of battlefield 3. As i just noticed their trying to advertise it. My guess is they wont sell many copies even if competitor talk stopped because pre-orders were probably done awhile ago and from better known sites that deal in games instead of a pc hardware store selling just 14 pc games.

I can see why they want in on the bf3 action but i just cant see why they think they can pull it off, if it was my business and a pc hardware store owner i would stay well out of the games because it just wouldn't work I just couldn't compete. Just my opinion of course.

Emulators have always been a very dark grey area in here...mainly because most of them rely on using copyrighted/proprietary code from the original software, let alone the actual games being played on them.

Competitors have also had a long history in here as well...

But with these new rules and because of what's going on with BF3, how do we know what is and what isn't a competitor?. How is steam not a competitor to you? or origin for that matter.

Or does it only class as Shop Retail?

My guess is their writing up some new rules for the forum or i hope so that clearly state things.

As before you were ok just as long as it wasnt linking to anything delt with their core business (pc hardware) but games arnt their core business well i dont think 14 games count lol.

@ Neil yep i know but still points count. ;)

Can we please clarify what counts as a 'Competitor' (Digital/retail/both)? Which of the following are actually allowed to be talked about?

Water Vapour?
The .... of life?
Purple shirt people?
The river/rainforest?
Hargrid's ...?
The things that we play?

I never whine or complain about OCUK rules because, well, it's their *darn* forum, but this is just pathetic imo.

OCUK sell games as do Steam and Origin, which, going from the original post, means we are no longer permitted to mention either Steam or Origin.
