Regular MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti or Factory OC?

Regular MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti or Gigabyte OC

I'm thinking about buying either;

or

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-074-GI&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1341

It'd be nice to save the extra tenner, so would it be particularly difficult to bring the regular model up to the same speeds as Gigabyte?

Is there any difference in overclock-ability between the two?

Is it possible to exceed the factory speeds of the Gigabyte with the MSI?

I'd go for the regular one, as according to my previous experience the manufacturers don't seem to be doing a good job binning the chips well, e.g. I've seen MSI GTX580 TF2 OC unstable without voltage bump, Sapphire 5870 OC unstable without voltage bump etc.

20Mhz on stock voltage IMO shouldnt be to much of an issue. Would be interesting to see what voltage levels both cards are set to, to achieve the clocks.

I have read that these cards will O/C well.

I would tend to agree with harmony here. Personal experience of a Gigabyte 580 OC that would not run stable at stock volts. OK... easy enough to bump it a bit in Afterburner. But come to sell it on and you would need to state that it wont run stable at stock volts. Quite aware that this is not a "universal issue" but you only need to look at for example, the MSI / Gigabyte forums, to see the number of OC cards that have this "issue".

In my experience, it's pretty much luck of the draw as to how well a GPU core will OC. So if it was me, I'd buy a stock (or not hugely OC'd card) and have a go at OCing it myself.

Only my personal opinion/s here. So not interested in posts along the lines of "but mine OC's to 1.5GHz and fully stable etc." ;););)

Thanks for everyone's replies so far. OCuK aren't making my decision any easier by reducing the Gigabyte to £180 and jacking the OC MSi card to £200 :(

Would anyone be able to give any info on temperatures and stability on the Gigabyte? I've noticed most reviews are for the SOC edition, so I can't really do a sufficient comparison.

My head says Gigabyte, but my heart says MSI. Maybe it's the metallic sheen and "miltary grade" marketing fluff that I love so dearly.

factory OC cards are pointless, your tweaking the performance bracket is all, i know that all cards will fail eventually but Factory oc's are just another open door for an issue, go for stock the 3 fps youl loose from a middle of the road card wont be too much of a miss.

wow on a side note, first post in the graphics section for a long long time, my once die hard love turned sour negativity towards this sub forum must be waning!

Bit ironic that we are on a forum called Overclockers, and yet you are advocating against bothering to overclock Kanifee!

As for temps, my Gigabyte card usually runs at about 65-70 degrees at close to 100% usage according to GPU-z, and about 50 degrees on idle. I've had it for about a month now and have had no stability issues so far.

Personally I would save a tenner and get the MSI. Both great branda and both coolers are excellent.

The MSI is cooler, the Gigabyte is quieter. Your call OP

To be totally honest... it's pretty much luck of the draw as to whether you get a problem with a graphics card (or any PC components these days). So pick which ever one takes your fancy and buy it. I doubt if you will be dissatisfied whichever you purchase.

im all for overclocking, done it for years, every cpu i have owned has been clocked, factory oc'd gpu's on the other hand offer little reward for extra cost.
3 fps isnt worth cost outlay, clock it yourself if you really must but i wouldnt pay for it.
