Hi guys! I have news on my Asus VG236!
I got the monitor, and I am so pleased with it! Its the best purchase I have made this year, and I have just moved house so there's been a lot of purchasing!
I had a Flatron W2453TQ which this has replaced, and I must say, the difference is staggering! The other monitor is only a year old, so I wasnt expecting much difference, but my god... It's like someones added 100 extra variations of colour to everything! Not just in game, but even searching the web, I can see such an improvement! All the colours are so vibrant and clear.
Straight out the box, the colours were so bright they nearly melted my face off, so I had to tone down the brightness and contrast by 15 points each. Moving away from the touch sensitive buttons on the old monitor to real buttons o nthe new ones was a god send. I had to press menu buttons multiple times before for it to recognise I wanted it to do something, but now I just have to give the button a push once and ta-da!
I have just been playing white pass on battlefield bad company 2, and everything is so much better! I didn't know what affect 120hz would really make, and I can tell you, playing this game is like watching real life running water. I cannot tell you how smooth and clean this is. For anyone whos played, you will know the wall at the top of the map you can sit behind (to the right, at the top of the hill that leads to out of bounds down the hill), I can now clearly see enemies on the ridge on the far side of the map. Not just see them moving or the odd pixel, I mean perfectly! This is down to the glossy screen going up from a matte finish, and down to 120hz for making movement so move, I no longer mistake moving leaves out the corner of my eyes for people, and do not miss people sat in bushes, as the player models are no longer vaugely the same colour as bushes, they are clearly players sat in bushes.
I can't comment on 3D yet, but I have been blown away by this monitor so far. If you have not tried 120hz, and you think your old monitor is good enough, I tell you now, it isn't good enough.
This ASUS model inparticular is perfect. No backlight bleed, no ghosting, no perceivable input lag, no dead pixels... The only thing I do have, is a tiny spec of dust on the wrong side of the glass, which casts a small shadow which is visable on a static white background (google search mainly) but invisible at any other time.
I have seen MAC monitors, and for colour and vibrancey, and sheer quality to be honest, I think bang per buck is better on the ASUS than the MAC screens. I don't see how anything currently on the market using the same technology in the same can match this thing.
If you buy this, you will not be disapointed. I really am that astounded.
EDIT: Also, the reflection may be an issue to some people from the glossy screen, but I'm i na well light environment at the moment, and I did not notice reflections in game, but I do when web browsing. I don't get any reflection when I dim the lights (Hurrah for dimmer switches!) tThe reflections don't bother me anyway, the colour from the screen cuts through most reflection anyway. I don't feel I would be getting as much out of this monitor if I didn't have such a good mouse (Saitek Cyborg RAT 7), and I don't feel my last monitor was doing my mouse justice. Don't ask me how I percieve this, it just seems to be true. Movement matches the mouse perfectly, I don't know what else to say!
