Is this supposed to happen to a Silver Kill Coil

I put a Pulse Modding Silver Kill Coil the last time I did my water loop, that was about 3 months ago.
And this is what the silver looks like:eek:

I called the place where I bought it from and the guy says it is normal for silver to become black!
But this is not exactly black, there was a darker film of something on it but I cleaned it with some distilled water and most of it went off apart from this stuff.
It feels rougher than the silvery bits and will not come off even if I try to rub it off!
So what is this and is it normal for a silver kill coil to look like this over time?(3 months?)

It's just normal tarnish. I believe it's silver sulphide (from ions which would be in even distilled water). Mine goes black too but with a bit of scratching it rinses off. I think you can also clean it off with vinegar :).

I tried rubbing it off, very hard with my finger nails even! but it will not come off. Didn't try vinegar though.

Going to try it now :)

So nothing to panic? no need to switch to EC6? I was just about to add it the shopping cart!

Nah all silver tarnishes like this over time :). Someone come and correct me if I'm wrong though.

Shouldn't be dangerous to your loop as it's (1) not organic and (2) won't cause anything else to corrode. Might effect the anti-fungal properties of the coil, but it is possible to get the tarnish off.
