Quick question - which graphics card would best go with the following system within a budget of £250?
  • Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
  • Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
  • Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9)
  • Silverstone Raven 2 RV02B Full Tower Case
In prep for Battlefield 3 on a single 24" @ 1920 x 1200 :)

Considering this at the moment: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-274-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1752

Thanks.

Many downsides of the card.
Crap CS/RMA
triple slot

Performance is identical.

I'd stick with the 6950 toxic

No downsides with that card mate I have the GTX 580 version, only downside is it takes 3 slots, but this is one of it's reasons for being quiet and very cool running. Great cards and never had an ASUS card fail on me and had many. Also Cleeecooo we won't go into how many cards you blew up ;) trying to make them toast your breakfast :D.

This card mate. Great drivers and a very quiet card and I have the GTX 580 version of it. Also you don't have to deal with AMDS shocking drivers then.

Not that bad!

I'd rather get The Gigabyte/MSI versions :)

Ohh yes they are shocking drivers from AMD (Before anyone says User Error, stop it.. I have been using a computer since the ZX80 and even built them from components), try doing more then gaming on them and you will realise all the faults with them ;). Most of us want hardware acceleration to work correctly with other programs, eg flash, browsers etc.. AMD sucks bad here... Also when I reported the faults to them they blame adobe or microsoft or Mozilla.. but magically on next driver update they would work until the programs got updated again .. Sorry but no thanks I want my non-gaming stuff to work right too. I do a lot more then game on my pc mate and see the faults with the drivers on many packages, try using AMD cards on Adobe CS 5.5 products that support GPU acceleration... or Autocad ... the list goes on..;).. and as we know many more products will support GPU acceleration and so far I found only Nvidia works on them as designed..

This is coming from a loyal fan of AMD/ATI products.. This is my 2nd ever Nvidia card, all before that were ATI, Matrox, 3dfx and only 1 Nvidia card before this and hated it.. See how things have changed ? AMD currently have a bunch of driver writers that can't make the cards do anything more useful then play games and that sometimes is funny too .. it may take them 3-4 driver updates or profile updates for the new game to work as designed but ofcourse they break a bunch of other older games while doing that (Check their forums). It's ashame their GPU hardware designers are very good but their driver team is letting them down badly recently.

AMD did have good drivers in the past but recently it's all gone down hill with all the new changes to GPU processing and acceleration. I even know some of their driver team on a first name basis after reporting so many faults to them. Also I feel sorry for all that have to deal with their support forum admin SPYRE... He could not tell you left from right and then adds google it when you have a problem.

PEBKAC TBH :D

AMD's drivers are bad, but they're not horrendous. Nobody would really buy an AMD for a lot of the things you've said as i believe NV ae the kings of those areas :)

PEBKAC LOL nope problem is AMD driver team ;)..

Exactly mate they are becoming the leaders in a lot of areas not related to gaming and well as we see they are even leading the gaming scene at the moment too. The gaming scene is always changing hands between AMD and Nvidia and I could care less about that. I loved my ATI 5870 until the drivers became worse and worse with every update, then we would get a magic driver that seems to work for everything and then next update we are back to square one with 80% of the stuff working as designed.

Hey I may say same about Nvidia if they start to mess up too, but reality is they are on the ball at the moment when it comes to drivers. (apart from their manage 3d settings profiles that auto detects what you have installed, that seems messed up but does not effect the use of the programs in anyway I noticed).

560ti is getting a new core. but id go for a 6950. any 6950 because whether it unlocks or not is largely irrelevant, locked itll oc higher, unlocked less higher.
