Deciding on a monitor for my son as a Christmas present.

Didn't know about these two until today but they both look interesting.

Appreciate that there isn't much information or reviews about these but I'd really appreciate any opinions you have of either or how they compare.

The LG is ridicuously cheap but I don't mind paying the extra for the Iiyama if it is better (better picture, better build etc.).

Use is for general computing and gaming. I understand that they are not as fast as TNs but I'm not all that taken in by the speed. I have a Dell 2311 (8mS) and that plays games fine. If it ghosts then I don't notice it.

I'd really appreciate any advice.

Cheers,

Nigel

That's the million dollar question of course. Since both are very new monitors I doubt anyone has seen these side by side. I would expect them to be similar, so since the LG IPS235V is cheaper and gets good reviews, I would go for that one (I have one and it's a lot of bang for the buck). I very much doubt the Iiyama would offer anything more to justify its higher price tag (even though it's still good value), but then again, who knows...
Wish I got Christmas presents like that when I was a kid!

Haven't found much about the IPS235V but the IPS236V has quite a few complaints about backlight bleed, information on the iilyama is scarce but but almost always positive.

Might want to wait a bit longer (not too long obviously with christmas approaching) for more user feedbacks to show up.

Thanks,

I agree - I would be very surprised if anyone could do a side by side review.

But I was also interested in opinions on either of the monitors.

I read the X2377HDS threadbut despite it being 2 pages very little gets said about it - in fact it contains more discussion about the IPS235V.

@FlyingPig

Have you managed to do any gaming on your LG - if so what's your opinion?

Also what is the colour of the bezel like - I read it was brushed so is it a metal colour or black\grey. I assume it is more like satin then glossy.

Cheers,

Nigel

As you probably read on the other thread I was originally going to buy the X2377HDS but since there were no reviews of it at all, I went for the LG, which had a good review on expertreviews. That is how that thread in effect became an IPS235V thread.

I've only played some single player BF3 on the LG and it was absolutely fine. What games do you play? Haven't done much gaming lately as I have been swamped with work but I'd be happy to try out some other titles. Somebody else reported gaming was also fine in racing games for him.

The bezel is a bit brushed I suppose, but to be honest I hadn't even noticed until now. It just looks black without the gloss. Nice enough.

Little bit of backlight bleed on mine, but it is really little and quite normal for an IPS screen. Doesn't disturb me. The IPS236V is an older model that gets some negative reviews indeed but that is not the case for the 235 model we're all talking about.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of these monitors. No word from OcUK when they will stock the LG, they are probably in the best position to do a direct comparison between the two once they have the LG in stock (I hope they do soon as I feel bad talking about the model when only competitors have it in stock).

@FlyingPig

Thanks. Play a mixture of RTS, FPS and RPG.

As I have mentioned I have a Dell 2311 which has a speed of 8mS. I moved from a 2mS screen and I can't spot any problems.

Maybe if you rolled out some scientific equipment and did very accurate measuring there might be something - but if there is, my eyes don't care.

Cheers,

Nigel

Thanks for the advice.

But in the end I decided that money is for spending so went for the Dell U2312.
