Hey guys

Just messing about with some settings and I decided to turn on physx. I did not think it would even turn on but it told me it will work but performance would be bad. So I loaded the game up and I can see all the extra sparks on the section I am on that is not there with physx off. Now I see no FPS drop on the 6950 at all, will all physx stuff show up or just bits of it as it is an AMD card?

Cheers

This is probs old but I did not find anything when searching. Clip of physx on the 2gb 6950, with physx off I have no sparks. So the question remains just how much extra goodies will show up using an AMD card.

EDIT: OK seems you will see all the effects but I got major slowdowns in areas with lots of smoke. But what a huge difference physx makes on that game, its amazing.

Never knew you could do that. Would this be OK and how do you rig them up to work side by side?

I do have two PCI slots on the mobo.

How old can you realistically go on an nvidia card to have the highest physx settings within AC? Would an old 8800 cut it?

Yup an 8800 would be fine for just physx on AC. Not sure how older cards would fare

Rocksteady recommend...

GTX 560 or better for normal physX

GTX 570 + dedicated GTX 460 or better for high physX

If i had a spare nvidia gpu i would try that first.

meh I think there are some hacked drivers that can do that. I remember some features in mirrors edge were awesome, new materials that you wont see normally like flags and glass explosion effects.

not got a spare pci-e slot whats my options?
Motherboard update or a top end nvidia gpu for best performance with physX. Or run the physX on your cpu but with performance penalty most likely.

The PC version of Batman: Arkham City will feature realistic smoke, debris, leaves, and paper using GPU PhysX. There will also be features not seen in Batman: Arkham Asylum including clothing on characters.

APEX destructibles are used in the PC version for breakable elements in the game including breakable walls and objects that get thrown during fights. APEX clothing is used in the PC version for several of the characters you’ll encounter in the game and for simulating effects like paper and leaves. APEX clothing was also used for many of the cutscenes which can be seen on all platforms.

What are the visual differences between physics calculated by CPU and GPU (via PhysX/APEX)?

The extra PhysX effects in the PC version of the game add another dimension of realism to the game. When fighting as Batman or Catwoman, you will see walls break into splinters, paper and debris get kicked up, smoke respond realistically, and clothes on the thugs you fight.

Are there any features that players without an Nvidia card will miss? What technical features cannot be realized with the CPU as “physics calculator”?

All PhysX and APEX features can be run on the CPU or an NVIDIA GPU, but you can expect the game to run much slower without NVIDIA GPU acceleration when the additional PhysX effects are enabled. An NVIDIA GPU is recommended for all the additional PhysX features.
