I can start getting excited again now! Can't wait to see what McLaren and the rest come up with this year. Considering they had a radically different sidepod design and a top 3 vehicle was quite awesome.
 
As I said in the other thead, there have been rumours of McLaren having a small set of side pods and using the Peltier effect to cool the car. It's just a rumour but would be awesome if true.
 
Just reading up on the Peltier effect. Seems far to inefficient to be practical, and would require lots of power? Its a fairly big leap from USB drinks coolers to cooling and entire F1 car...

I suppose they could power it off the same hardware that their KERS is running off, but I agree that it does seem impractical.
 
I don't think they'll be using it as the sole cooling solution. They've probably just found a way to utilise it efficiently as JRS suggests with the KERS system, enabling them to reduce the rad size and give them more flexibility in their sidepod design.

Well they do generate excess energy from the KERs system and its the rules that stop them using it for KERS, maybe they funnel that into the Peltier.

It could all be rubbish so I won't be holding my breath.

Yeah.

Scarbs suggested that teams would likely go for a more gradual curve, like the Brawn GP nose, rather than creating a 'step' down to the new height restriction. Clearly the teams have at least been looking at other options.

Its... interesting. Didn't someone in another thread mention that Ferrari said their 2012 car was 'ugly'?
