Hey, I’ve had the Bitfenix Shinobi (non-windowed) for over a month now and I thought I’d do a quick review :)

The main reason I bought a shinobi is because I didn’t want to buy a very expensive case yet but also did not want a case that looked very cheap.I'd say the Shinobi ticks this box. It may not be the dearest case nor the most highly speced but for the price and the looks it’s a great budget case.

1. Out of the box impressions

With the case you get 1 120mm black spectre which is very quiet but doesn’t push much air. One thing I love about this case is that every single cable in the case is sleeved from tip to tip in black. All the front panel connectors are black as well as the fan cable from the spectre (which you don’t get with single bought spectres). It’s worth mentioning now that the 2 front fans and the bottom 2 fan cut outs have dust filters on them.
The Case itself is coated in a soft powdery rubber (any Bitfenix owner will know what I mean) this is a very nice finish and is lovely to touch. The case has 2 lines of mesh going up the front and continuing onto the top. These can be easily removed which I had to do because the bottom of one was turned up after shipping. Inside the case is all black as well. You also get 4 rubber feat to put onto the bottom of the case to give it some more lift off the ground for more airflow and also so the metal case is not sitting flat on your desk or the ground. Included as well is the necessary motherboard standoffs and screws for the hard drive bays (although these are tool lees on the windowed version).

2. Fitting your components in the case

When fitting my components inside the case I encountered one main problem, the motherboard standoffs. 3 broke on me and decided to keep the screws inside with a death grip like hold  Bitfenix seem to have painted the inside of the standoffs as well as the screws so the paint just wrecks inside them. With the standoffs you also get a standoff tool that helps you screw them in tighter. Everything else was ok apart from if you have 2 140mm fans in the top it can be a squeeze to get your 8 pin into the mother board from behind it . You have to install the front fans before you put the hard drive in otherwise the just won’t go in and a lack of dust filter on the top is disappointing but not a massive point.

3. Airflow and temps

I have a 2500k (not overclocked yet until I buy my replacement psu) and on load with a Kuhler 620 I get about 40C and around 28C when idle. My 5770 idles at 50C and 80-90 on load. My front dust filter collects some dust in it so I clean it about twice a week but with 2 apaches in there its to be expected and the dust filters are very easy to clean and dry in seconds with a towel.

4. Overall impressions

Being my first case I’ve nothing really to compare it to but from what I can see it’s an excellent budget case from a top notch brand. Bitfenix make lovely cases and this is no exception. With the 2 or 3 cons I’ve had from this case they are all outweighed by the overall looks and performance of the case. It has plenty of cooling options with the option for water cooling with the 2 grommets in the back, but I doubt if you are water-cooling you’ll want a budget / medium case.

Overall I give the case 8/10 dropping marks for the motherboard standoffs and the non-tool-less hard drive and 5 ¼ “ bays.

Brilliant first case and would highly recommend to any first time or even budget build.

BTW this is my first review so go easy on me haha :)

Good read man, same motherboard as me I believe? I went for the windowed Shinobi, I think it looks a lot better with the tool-less parts on it, and I put my hdd in the dvd drive bays to make it tidier looking
