Right,

Having been using whs 2011 for a bit, I am FED UP with all the problems I am having with it. I have to reinstall about 5 times to get different bits to work and then something else doesn't work!

I've had so many problems. From backups going to 'unknown' status and the backup service stopping itself, to not being able to turn media streaming on and not being able to change the quality.

So its time for a change! what can I use instead of WHs 2011 that will give basically the same functionality without all the **** that comes with whs 2011?

Easy backups and remote media streaming are a must. :)

Cheers

You could use a Win7 box? do backups with robocopy/mapped network drives, give it a static ip if you've got no dns/homegroup.

Did these problems start after you started installing add-ons?

I think you'd be better off trying to find the cause of your issues instead of replicating WHS 2011 with 3rd party software.

just when I needed it the most. my whs2011 dashboard kept crashing on my w7 computer when it tried to mount a drive for restoring files.

I just restored a 10 day onld acronis drive image backup. I wanted to download the more recent files from whs2011. It failed, no biggy I didn't do any major work in that 10 day period (holidays).

Pretty goddam useless, but I do realise it's probably a w7 fault more than anything [the pc I was tryign to restore files to].

It would be nice to be able to save my acronis drive image in the secure backup locations on the whs2011 too. At the moment I'm keeping them onto storage drive.
