Hi Guys, I am having a few problems trying to replace a broken graphics card and wondered if anyone could show me the error of my ways (even though I am pretty sure I know what the problem is).
I am trying to replace a broken Radeon X7000SE in a Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P home pc for a new Radeon HD 5450, the current power supply is pumping out a max of 350w but am I right in assuming that the card requires a minimum of 400w and for this reason will stop the machine from booting up... Can anyone suggest an alternate graphics card that overclockers stock?
Any suggestions welcomed, thanks guys!!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I assume you mean an X700SE which I believe came with either an AGP or or PCI-E connection.

If it's AGP you'll need another AGP card unless the motherboard has a PCI-E x16 slot as well. Very few motherboards have both though.

To answer your original question there should be no problem powering a HD 5450 from a reasonable quality 350W PSU.

Edit:

With further research the motherboard has a PCI-E x16 slot so a HD 5450 should be fine.

Hi Surveyor, Thanks for your reply.
The current X700 is a PCI-E so I have purchased the HD 5450 PCI-E 2.1bus hoping that it would be a quick switch, however, we all know nothing is ever that simple. The machine wont even boot up, the screen just keeps flashing up "No Video Signal". Am I doing something wrong, or should it literally be a quick switch. I have read somewhere that I might have issues with the Asus Motherboard that is in the machine currently (Asus P5GD1-FM/S)...

The PCI-E slot on your motherboard will be PCI-E 1.0/1.1 but the graphics card should be backwards compatible.

Are you certain it was the graphics card which was faulty?

Do you see the BIOS screen or get no image at all?

With the old graphics card in it used to boot fine up until windows, when in windows everything was flickering and fuzzy, so I thought maybe it was graphics card. The screen I am using also said "Signal out of range" as though the card was putting out a faulty signal. I thought by trying the HD 5450 that I could eliminate this problem, but it doesnt even boot to bios screen, just sits there blank, dont even get motherboard beep like with other card.

I would have thought it'd boot with the HD 5450, it's a fairly low power card.

Have you tried the old card but booting up into Windows in Safe Mode (pressing F8)?

Are you using VGA?

It could be a faulty cable.

It was the bl**dy monitor after all that, its not broken or faulty but the sync rate wasn't compatible with the graphics card so it was displaying signal error. Thanks for your help anyway!!

No problem.

I assumed that everything had been working before but it must be the first time you used that particular monitor.

FYI if you bought the HD 5450 mail order from a business seller you can return it for a full refund under the Distance Selling Regulations if you've had it no more than 7 working days.

I have the exact same issue, detailed here. I have replaced the X700se with the HD5450 and nothing displays upon my monitor, the PC doesn't beep on startup as it typically would. My old card is completely kaput and I was hopeful this new card would resolve all my woes. The monitor is a Scaleoview T19-2, is it likely to be the problem? Can you suggest another card which would be compatible if the HD 5450 simply won't work? Is there any other way around the monitor issue? Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks.
