Since we have new German overlords and also my interest in these beers I thought we could have a thread.

After tasting Hoegaarden it's pretty much the only beer I drink now. It's amazing!!!

Does anyone have any recommendations on other wheat beers, places to purchase etc?

I know that the Wetherspoons here in WSM do Ales for £1.79 per pint on Sundays:coo: they also change the range weekly so there is always something new to try:)

try Franziskaner, my local morrisons sell it!

fruli is a nice strawberry wheat beer!

I have a Milestone Raspberry Wheat Beer homebrew kit currently conditioning in the barrel at home.

The tap will be opened in exactly 22 days from now. CAN'T. WAIT.

Erdinger is the only one I've had and I love it! It's just a bit of a bugger to pour as it doesn't need any excuse to fizz up out of the glass and onto your lap!

Hoegaarden is Belgian. :p

Love Paulaner, Erdigner and Franziskaner. Also love the dark (dunkel) varieties.

Going to have to look out for this a bit more. I'm sure some of the local pubs will have a few bottles somewhere. I've only seen Erdinger in Leek, and the place rapes your wallet for it!

Most other countries dont brew much/any wheatbeer. Germany does. The best readily available ones to look for are Schneider Weisse and Weihenstephaner. And Franziskaner is good too. Erdinger isnt great.

And Hoegaarden isnt a wheat beer, its a 'wit/white' beer.

'Wit' beer is a variety of wheat beer.

Sorry, ignore me and my sleep deprived brain... I'm getting Duvel mixed up with something but I can't remember what (it had a bottle that was almost exactly the same shape).

Are you guys winding me up now?

Since when was Duvel a wheat beer? Chuffing great beer, one of my favourites, but it's not a wheat beer.

If you ever see banana nectar you could always try a bananenweizen - really nice on a summers day.
For a country that a lot of people would say brews the best beer in the world the Germans mix it with a ungodly amount of other things (lemonade, cola, fruit syrups etc..)!

Erdinger white and crystal are amongst my favourite beers. Same with paulaner...

Most wheat beers are awesome though. I only really bring up erdinger and paulaner as they are some of the easiest ones to get hold of :)
