Hi all, my brother has had problems with a Q6600 rebooting in his machine, I posted a simular question in CPU advice.

His spec is Q6600, Asrock G41M-VS3, GTX 460 and 8 gig ddr3. On his old E5200 clocked at 3.12 (250 fsb) all is well in gaming but on the Q6600 a couple of mins in and the PC reboots. Could his PSU cause this? or is the board not supplying enough voltage to the chip (there is no way to increase voltage)?

I thought EZCOOL 550W would have been ok as it ran the E5200 fine? all is well in browsing etc, but gaming it just reboots.

Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

Well the first thing I would do is change the PSU for two reasons,

1) A cheap one can never deliver its rated power, a reputable model will be more efficient, stronger and safer to use.

2) Maybe with the more power hungry Q6600 its now trying to use enough power that trips up the cheap PSU.

Guru3D say these things can happen with a poor PSU,
bad 3D performance
crashing games
spontaneous reset or imminent shutdown of the PC
freezing during gameplay
PSU overload can cause it to break down
